Two people were killed by falling branches, and more than 463,000 were left without power as high winds swept through the Puget Sound region.
A girl in Federal Way and a man in Gig Harbor were killed in a windstorm Saturday that took down trees and power lines, whipped debris into the streets, and left almost a half-million customers without power

16.5 hours without power up in Whatcom County.
Must be the Haliburton Wind Machine got turned on?
That’s a long time when you’re not expecting it
The little was only 10 years old. The man was driving his car when a tree fell on it. His 3 year old in the rear set was not hurt thank God.
The commies up there should revel in this. It’s what they advocate.
I was pretty ticked off when the condos behind me got power at the 7.5 hour mark, and I was still in the dark.
Omg protect the tofu!
Are you up by Bellingham? I went on a whale watching boat from there a couple of years ago.
I am south of Tacoma. We lost power twice, both times just for a second. It was windy, but the only damage was to a neighbor’s tree, which was torn in half.
What worried me was the wind they experienced on the EAST side of the mountains. Spokane experienced a haboob. The fires were NOT helped by the wind. They’re getting a little rain this morning.
“Spokane experienced a haboob”
wow - hadn’t heard that.
The fires are awful. I hope there’s enough rain to help put them out or at least slow them down.
North of Bellingham, about 4 miles from the border.
Yup. My dad lives there. Saw picturtes. Best word to describe it? “Yuk”.
“about 4 miles from the border.”
Do you like it? I like the Washington coast. If it rained a little less, sun shined a bit more, I’d seriously think of moving somewhere there. Besides that, I have family & friends in the Seattle & Puget Sound areas.
I am also south of Tacoma (Puyallup/Graham) and we are SURROUNDED by cedars and maples. Gigantic maple in the back yard lost a couple good sized branches. Luckily the only damage was to the neighbors fence, which was easily repaired. Pretty dang scary being under that tree when it’s that windy! Never lost power tho.
I'm about 100 miles from Seattle, where I have my chamber music concerts in February and July. I'm close enough for cultural events, but far enough away so that the urban ills don't affect me.
I'm a short drive from Vancouver BC, on the other side of the border, where I have another classical music concert series that runs during the year.
I like the peace, quiet and sense of safety. I was priced out of Seattle when I retired, and this little town is a happy medium.
Sounds very nice - minus the smell of cow manure.
Do you feel like you have access to good medical care, hospitals in an emergency, etc? That’s a concern of mine for retirement
Bellingham is only about 10 miles away down Route 539, so that’s not a problem.
Thanks for your replies.
