Lot of Confederate sympathizers in California back in the 1860s. The Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, famous as the site for hundreds of Western films was named for the Confederate battle ship, The Alabama.

I was leaving the parking lot at the Tractor Supply in my town and noted a truck parked near the flea market they have on Saturday mornings. The truck had both the U.S. flag and the Rebel Flag flying from staffs rigged to the bed, but the Rebel Flag had half of the flag missing (almost like someone made a vertical cut to it and cut it exactly in half... just from being flow on the road and the flag getting tattered.

Right then I saw 2 young guys and a girl returning to the truck from the flea market, with a NEW Rebel flag. I slowed down and hollered to the driver, "I was just gonna say, y'all need a new flag!" and he held up the new flag with a huge grin.

Last I saw they were pulling out behind me and the girl was holding the flag out the window letting it fly in the wind.

This is Northwest Pennsylvania!

The latest rumor is the transregion mental disorder that seems to affect Michiganders has spread to neighboring Ohio. Apparently a carrier from Monroe, MI infected the local population in Toledo, OH, and it branched out from there.

Transregionism is also responsible for people from the east coast wearing cowboy hats, and Jamaican bobsled team in the movie Cool Runnings.

After WWII the migration to the industrial regions of Ohio, Michigan, etc., from the south was huge. In my family, also in Ohio, we returned at least once a year to N. Carolina to visit extended family.
