Pope Francis sends letter praising gay children's book
The Guardian ^ | Aug. 28, 2015 | Rosie Scammell

Italian book that explores different family types including same sex was banned by mayor of Venice, but pontiff becomes unlikely supporter ... In the book, the egg encounters a pair of gay penguins, lesbian rabbits successfully bringing up a family, as well as other family models, including a single parent hippo, a mixed race dog couple, and kangaroos that have adopted polar bear cubs...

Now Pardi has found an unlikely supporter in Pope Francis, who through his staff has written to the author praising her work. “His holiness is grateful for the thoughtful gesture and for the feelings which it evoked, hoping for an always more fruitful activity in the service of young generations and the spread of genuine human and Christian values,” wrote Peter B Wells, a senior official at the Vatican secretariat of state.

The letter, dated 9 July and recently seen by the Guardian, was a response to a parcel of children’s books sent by Pardi to the pontiff in June. The collection from her publisher, Lo Stampatello, including seven or eight books which deal with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues (LGBT), was accompanied by a heartfelt letter from the author describing the attacks she has come under in recent months. ...

Personally I don’t think Cruz -can- fix this because of the reasons you say. I just want him to try.

People want their liberalism and they want to call it conservative. Making them no different than admitted liberals. If they wanted the conservatism they flood FR with chest beating patriotism with, they’d vote for it. Even a plastic doll like Barbie can figure out math that simple. And she’s blonde besides...

I think this guy is going to make EX-Catholics out of lots of people.

Yes, including me. Certainly don’t wish to do so.

“he was blessing them for furthering family/Christian values. “

This is not true.

I believe you have misrepresented what was written.

There are two parts of the quote, one dealing with the past, which only thanks them for a thoughtful gesture and feelings evoked.
“His holiness is grateful for the thoughtful gesture and for the feelings which it evoked”

i.e. thanks for the gift, the gift was a nice thought which I appreciate. A generic form letter response.

The second part expresses hope for the future.

“hoping for an always more fruitful activity in the service of young generations and the spread of genuine human and Christian values”

You can say this to absolutely anyone no matter how monstrous their behavior and ideas and have it be a positive thing.
It’s saying I hope in the future you do a better job serving humanity and Christianity than before.

Which is an equally good thing to say to anyone.

Generic form letter from a staff member...

He would make some leave and those he causes to join would not know traditional Christianity when this Pope leaves.

Carson has said he is not anti-second amendment. He believes in our right to bear arms.

I consider the Corker bill, which upends the Constitution, a huge mistake, not something I can overlook. This will seal the Iran Nuke deal, instead of giving the Senate the constitutional right to void Obama’s Iran deal.

The sane thing with the Trade bill. Cruz writes up an article for the WSJ to tell us how great the Trade bill is. Then he says he made a mistake. He was either naïve in the beginning or he changed his vote, when he put his finger in the wind. Either way, I can’t support him. He seems to be a “me too” guy. Right now, he’s hoping to be Trump’s Vice President. I guess he doesn’t mind Trump as much as you do.

Cruz could have invited others to share the stage with him, but he only invited Trump. He wants to ride the Trump’s coattails.

“Excuse me, how is the book consistent with Christian values as the note states?
What did I miss?”

I think you missed the part where the letter doesn’t actually say it is consistent with Christian values.

Please, Lord, don’t let that happen.
What a terrible atmosphere this man is creating.
We must stay strong for...the children and all of humanity.

Let’s not play games here. The note from the Pope’s office praises this as spreading Christian values. Not so, the Vatacan dropped the ball here.

“It sounds like a generic form letter response to me.
And it isn’t from the pope, it’s from his staff.”

So they receive a bunch of gay children’s books and send out a form letter expressing the sentiment to keep up the good work???

If that’s the case, I hope they send someone out to apologize and fire the person responsible.

Somehow I don’t think this is going to happen.

iow this pope is making the mistake of buying the “born” myth. This is what they get for nominating a Marxist.

I don’t know about the book. I just ran across this story that said the Pope never responded to the author, but supposedly the Vatican did. You know what I mean?

I believe the Pope is questionable on matters of his own faith, but I know he has vocal dissidents doing a lot of his talking for him. I think that is what I’m trying to say.

On this note thing, my source says he didn’t write the author, period. Catholic Culture is that source.

You’re the one playing games.
It’s obviously a generic form letter.

And it doesn’t praise the books as spreading christian values, you just lied about what was written.

Rule #1: Sarah Palin is always right.

Rule #2: If you think Sarah Palin is wrong check Rule #1.

Sarah has been right about: Russia invading Ukraine if Obama became President, Pope Francis being a liberal, the economy being in tatters, that you can see Russia from Alaska, and etc.

Everyone who has said that Sarah was wrong was wrong.

Believe what you like about Cruz but Carson saying 2 sets of rules for gun ownership is 100% anti 2A regardless of what he SAYS. And thats far worse an action by him than anything Cruz did or said. A right to BA is either good for all or for none. Cruz was wrong, but he was within the Constitution. Carson isn’t.

You believe in the Constitution/BOR or you support someone that does not. Can’t have it both ways.

“So they receive a bunch of gay children’s books and send out a form letter expressing the sentiment to keep up the good work???”

Look again at the actual quote.

It doesn’t provide any evaluation or praise of the books themselves, nor of the submitters prior efforts for Christianity or humanity.

It expresses a hope for the future that they will do a better job serving humanity and Christianity.

That’s something you can say to anyone and have it be a good thing.

It’s also something you’d expect in a generic thank you form letter from a large institution.

Which it is.
