"You keep thinking, Butch- that's what you're good at"
Cruz doesn’t have the same commitment to building the Wall. He has taken chamber of commerce money.
Cruz’s whole strategy depends on his belief that there are millions of disaffected, silenced conservative voters out there who are so marginalized that they are on the sidelines. The same ones that came out for Reagan in 76, and then in 80, and again in 84.
For a while, I questioned if that was true.
But now...it seems that Trump is actually finding those voters!
“and hes doing it in a wildly entertaining (and fact-free) way”
Well don’t let us get in the way of your snark actually being backed up.
Cruz/Trump = Crumpets
(Cruz is now trying out the unusual Trump strategy of attacking one of the rights most beloved journalists, Megyn Kelly.)
Not sure that’s accurate anymore. It seems that Megyn is remaking herself into a ... Democrat! All because she hates Trump!
Cruz also knows that there will be massive tv coverage of this event and he wants to cash in on that. That must be the reason e invited him. Maybe he is a used car salesman type after all.
The idea is to keep the anti GOPe vote unified unlike previous elections. Obviously, Cruz is the superior candidate, but Trump has been more effective at generating publicity and getting under the skin of the establishment on both sides. OTOH, Rand Paul has been politically very foolish to criticize Trump especially when Paul is also an anti GOPe candidate.
I’m a Cruz supporter, but I don’t mind Trump attacking the GOPe and the establishment in general. Marginalizing jebbush and his sycophants like George III Will is what we need at this early stage.
Yeah. When the guy leading by double digits exits the race. Yeah. Sure. Got it.
Right??
That’s why we need Cruz to stay in the senate. He’d fade away in VP slot, leaving senate unguarded
He can’t get ahead in the prez race. He doesn’t have the stand on your own and attract people quality
It’s so much more obvious now against Trump
Very cynical article. I sincerely doubt that Cruz has the sort of plan outlined here. Certainly he would like to win, but he is a very principled man.
“But in the long run Trump’s strategy can’t work”
Says who? Maybe it does and maybe it doesn’t but the finality of “can’t work” is BS straight from the “Obama is a 1 term senator with a questionable past. He can’t win” line.
Has Trump ever withdrawn easily from a challenge?
Some play chess when others are playing checkers.
IMO Trump and Cruz are working together to winnow down the field, especially the GOPe candidates. Hence the focus by Trump on Bush and Walker. If they are successful, then they will go head to head.
The reason Cruz is not picking up the votes is Cruz. Time to stop blaming other for your failures. I thing Cruz should be at least second to Trump but nowhere to be found. Biggest mistake he can make is trying to handle Trump.
Cruz is my choice. I’m glad he’s in the race. Every time I watch unedited video of his interviews, I like him more. Trump is wildly entertaining, and he is saying things that need to be said. We’ll see how long he lasts. Maybe he can ride this surge all the way to the White House. But if not, Cruz. Cruz. Good stuff.
I love Cruz and I support both Trump and Cruz. Too bad the hard-core Cruzers here can’t follow the lead of the man they say they admire (Cruz) and cut out the Trump snark. It’s just not necessary.
The two of them are setting an example of a team right now. We should all be working together.
Trump needs to stay in this until Jeb is knocked out. It’s not enough to beat him up a few rounds. And it’s likely that trump is the only one that can get him out
Trump is smart enough to know talent when he sees it. I suspect is not one of those people afraid to hire someone smarter than himself.
The writer is behind the times—Trump’s already had his first poll giving him 40% of the GOP primary vote.
