Those who teach in higher education are relatively OK with some religious groups, according to a study based on a 2012 online national survey that drew 464 complete responses.
Asked to assess religious groups on a feeling thermometer of 1 to 100, Jewish people, mainline Protestants and Catholics all achieved an average score of 65 or higher, researchers led by University of North Texas sociologist George Yancey reported in an online article in the journal Sociology of Religion.
Next to the bottom, just slightly above fundamentalists, were Protestant evangelicals with an average score of 48.
Based on the rankings and other survey responses, researchers Yancey, Sam Reiner and Jake OConnell classified nearly half of the participants as conservative Protestant critics, those with negative attitudes toward evangelicals.
The greatest sin of evangelicals: A perceived intolerance toward the academic critics own political views and belief systems.
They tend to be intolerant of others with different points of view or political positions, one health care professor said. An English professor said evangelicals were attempting to change the U.S. from a secular to a religious state.
In contrast, just 17 percent of the academic respondents were classified as theological definers, a group describing conservative Protestants in more neutral, academic terms....
They are not like us: Research has indicated academics in general are less religious and more politically liberal than most Americans, and that conservative Protestants are substantially underrepresented on university faculty...
Dont know them, dont want to know them: In the study, the harshest academic critics of conservative Protestants were the ones with the least contact, and least likely to seek to establish relationships with evangelicals. Those who took a more neutral academic approach were most likely to have evangelicals in their social network.
Despite bad press, my (many) dealings with evangelical Protestants remind me that most of those with whom Ive worked sincerely try to lead lives marked with loving kindness and good will, one theological definer reported..
Easy to pick on, harder to defend: The study also found academic critics felt free to use harsh, emotional language when describing conservative Protestants; more neutral observers largely confined themselves to academic, dispassionate assessments. The open hostility of critics may produce a silencing effect which keeps conservative Protestants in the closet, study researchers said.
Daniel 12, had to read the chapter. :) Have a blessed day!
I also could never understand the justification for God’s wrath until I did my own study on child sacrifice. I call it the Manasseh Judgment. Long read, took months, last edited july 2014 (second post if you want to copy and paste)

I work in academia, for the most part 90% of them don’t have walking around sense. Grown men coming to me saying my car, washer, dryer, etc... is broke, what do I do?
Had one last week his clothes dryer stopped heating and he asked me what to do. I said your high heat thermostat has stopped working, go buy one, cost you around $25 and put it in or call this repairman, he is reasonable price wise and he will do it for you. What does he do, buys a brand new dryer.
And yeah these academia nuts mostly loath people of faith and yet are the most miserable of creatures to be around.
As befits the liberal elite, who "despise dominion," (Jude 1:8) and seek to "climb up some other way" (Jn. 10:1) to power other than actually meriting it, like the devil sought in the first "occupy movement," saying
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. (Isaiah 14:14)
Inspired by him, radicals would take over the admin building in the 60's, but later fools would elect such.
Because cast down due to him prideful presumption, in his "share the wealth" speech, the devil sought to persuade Eve to believe God was unjustly keeping power from her, as if the almighty was fearful of her being as god in knowledge, and thus she cast her vote for the demonic victim-entitlement policy.
Under which there is no mercy or grace, as instead having benefits that normally must be earned or a gift are instead a right to be demanded by even the indolent and destructive, being taken from those who engaged in lawful work to obtain them, who are made to be the oppressors of those who lust after their benefits.
The end result is the the liberal elites who gained power by inculcating this mentality are the only one's having superior benefits, while all others are made dependent on them for sustenance, who must do homage to them as gods in order to obtain such or even live.
Call it Communism, liberalism, or black liberation, or Juche (N. Korea), it is demonism, working by deceiving souls into convincing them they are victims, and becoming bitter over being that and to lust after what others have, then believing in false Messiahs who promise them "deliverance" - benefits at the expense of others who earned them - and which saviors selfishly lust to reign over them, and finally to oppress them whatever their merit or misery.
In contrary, the call to worship and obedience by God, who needs nothing, (Acts 17:25) is to the benefit and blessing of man, whom God provides salvation for at His own expense, as it cannot be earned, and blesses obedience, even to sit with Christ as overcomers (though not being as God, but joyfully serving Him as do angels: Rv. 3:21: 22:3). Praise the Lord.
I believe the Christian movie “God’s not Dead” does a good job of portraying this hostility towards evangelicals. Good movie IMO for a church Friday night movie or at home for the family.
Thanks for you comments. Now what relevance do they have on this subject?
On another note...I see the atheist supercilious mentality on that Christian Forums site we periodically post at. There is one section the mods have allowed free reign to pagans, atheists and anarchists.
One ancharist complained the thread was losing order with Christians commenting on it. Of course I pointed out he was an anarchist so should understand:)
I’ve run into professors like that guy in the movie.
Vehement Christian haters.
I came across this today on another website
“Life is an echo. What you send out, comes back. What you sow, you reap. What you give, you get. What you see in others exists in you.” ~ Unknown
For behind such is the quest for the anarchist to reign supreme.
Sorry was posting to Daniel1212. should have been private, I guess. Usually I just ignore things not relative....
'cuz they b so smarter dan dem?
Dang!
Three MORE reasons to look down at them!
This belongs in the OTHER thread going on right now...
Getting hit hard by flak you must be over the target.
You IMO have a valid subject for discussion. If you started an end times thread I assure you it will be interesting:)
Yes, just remember, they hated Him first. I think a whole lot of the hatred of Christians, by these evil dirt bags, comes down to why Jesus said men loved darkness more than light. It is because their deeds are evil, and they just don't want to be reminded of the fact, that they are evil.
Maybe in the judgment, these nerds would love to have a Christian do something nice for them. Alas, it ain't going to happen. Remember, the men of Ninevah, and the queen of the south, will rise in judgement over this generation, and condemn it. I have a feeling, we Christians may rise with the men of Ninevah and the queen of the south.
Interesting; and all over the place!
LOL
