The conservative establishment is in deep denial about Donald Trump's appeal

National Review editor Rich Lowry has an entertaining column about the rise of Donald Trump whose core thesis is that Trump's rise highlights the unexpected weakness of the GOP's supposedly "strong field" of mainstream contenders. It's an interesting idea (see Daniel Drezner for more on this theme), but it's wrong.

Though Trump is anything but a banal person, his rise in the polls has a very banal explanation — he stands for some ideas that are reasonably popular, but that no other well-financed candidate has previously articulated. Donors don't like these ideas, so candidates normally don't express them. But this bloc of opinion has existed for a long time and represents a huge swath of the Republican Party rank and file. Trump is the egomaniacal opportunist who's finally giving voice to those ideas. And much of the American establishment is in deep denial about their real appeal.

The appeal of Donald Trump is he stands for us! He’s showing us how to be mad as hell and not take it anymore.

I completely agree.

The thing is, everyone else is too. Republicans, democrats everyone.

Only Trump is speaking the truth. Bring back American jobs.

Erick did himself more damage to his personal standing and in the fortunes of his personal RedState playground than he can possibly know.

I believe Donald Trump is a true patriot who loves America, unlike the POS POTUS now defaming our nation.

And the GOPe establishment along with the media! Soon the democrat/marxists will be firing at him when their voters switch to vote for Trump.

...“Democrats have opened our borders to all manner of horrific Third World violence, crime, and disease. The GOP has supported and endorsed this vile activity every single step of the way. Trump has tapped into the fury of the American people over the unrelenting anti-American NWO push of our paid employees in government. Trump could win this on this one issue alone. Americans are tired of being betrayed by their government on both sides of the aisle.”...

Not just a Republican issue.

“Conservative establishment” = oxymoron.

The RINOs are the establishment, attempting to ensure the liberal status quo. The conservatives are the rebels, a minority within the RINO party, trying to get this country on the right track after 8 damaging years of the magic monkey in the White Hut and his accommodating buttlickers in the supposedly Republican-led Congress.

The political pundit class is having fits attempting to diminish Donald Trump’s appeal and find reasons for it to be shallow and temporary so as to fit their view.

If Trump links up with Ted Cruz, a solid constitutional conservative, it will be devastating for the Republican establishment and give Trump a big boost as well as tamp down the accusation that Trump is a ‘closet liberal’.

Oh, I get his appeal. I just don’t buy into it. He’s anti-conservative almost across the board, and he’s only saying what he thinks people want to hear.

But I get the appeal.

Also, Yglesias is an idiot, but that’s not specific to this article.

Donald Trump has a good grasp on reality, something sorely lacking in our day and age where the silent, politically ignorant and lazy majority including many politicians, let themselves be controlled and kowtowed by a few freaks who run counter to whatever the majority believes and wants. Then along comes someone like a Donald Trump who doesn’t give a rats a$$ if he is politically correct or not and tells it like it is and the political establishment gets their shorts in a wringer and can’t figure out why he resonates with a good portion of the public who has gotten sick and tired of all the old, rotten, lying, contrived crap being served up on a daily basis by Washington, not to mention that guy who thinks he runs the show and would be lost without a teleprompter.

Even good old Jeb Bush didn’t get the message when he tried to chastise Donald for telling Jorge Ramos from Univision to sit down and shut up as it hadn’t been his turn to talk, and when he still refused to shut up, Donald had him rightfully thrown out. However being a fair person, who he is, Donald later on had him readmitted.

Let’s face it, it has become increasingly difficult if not impossible to start a revolution in this country in order to correct and throw out that pile of dung which has been accumulating over the years within that shining City on the Hill, which has lost much of its luster and Trump is about the closest and next best thing to a much needed revolution in order to clean out the cesspool on the Hill.

If he succeeds is another question, let us hope he does otherwise the downhill slide of this once Great Nation will continue unabated and the trash heap of history which is waiting for us at the bottom, should we ever get there, certainly doesn’t look too appealing.

Once again this is my take Saintgermaine

Some things he said that made me laugh out loud, "I am going to deport those illegal felons so fast its gonna make your head spin". And "the Chinese Premier does not deserve a state dinner, lets just serve him a Big Mac."

Isn't that why we love him? when he says things like this, the press, dems, Rs, donors, politicians, professors, the white house all are aghast and outraged, love it!

Trump is masterfully turning the tables on “Political Correctness”. The power of political correctness has been the fact that it is a form of “Legitimized Bullying” for the purpose of herding people into “Proper beliefs and thoughts”. As a result the majority live in fear of even accidentally committing a “thought crime”, and losing our bakeshop, flower shop, career etc.

I believe the main reason for Trumps popularity is that he has dared to step away from the herd and has been turning on and attacking anyone who tries to bully him back into place. Trump refuses to play by their rules. When they attack him it is he who profits, and they who are fired.

I am beginning to see a renewal of confidence in many people who have up until now been cowed into submission. I believe the media and liberal/rino overseers are beginning to sense this unrest, and are frightened.

We are living in interesting times.

It’s the “Almost” that is the sticker.
This election cycle Immigration and Islam are two concerns that dwarf all others. To a degree that those two issues are likely to decide the election.

Trump and Cruz are on the right side of those issues.

The key is to get a Trump/Cruz ticket, so if Donald gets removed, Cruz takes over!

The GOP is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Cheap Labor Express.
They represent the employers of illegal aliens.
The Democrats represent the illegal aliens.

No one has been representing the 65% of the citizens that want the illegal alien inundation stopped.

Trump has stood up for those citizens.

Nature abhors a vacuum.

Let them remain in denial. The longer they are, the more leverage the Donald has.
