Jeb, O’Reilly Unaware of Ike on Immigration? (Jeffrey Lord)

How can a serious presidential candidate and a major cable television host be so repeatedly ignorant of such a significant moment in American history?

I don’t know. But I do know that both Jeb Bush and Bill O’Reilly are either attacking Donald Trump (Bush) or challenging him on air (O’Reilly) seemingly clueless of a seminal moment in American immigration history.

As discussed in this space last week, that moment in history began on June 17, 1954, when, at the personal direction of President Dwight D. Eisenhower – the fabled American hero of the D-Day invasion – illegal immigrants in America were rounded up and deported back to Mexico. Exactly as Donald Trump is proposing to do today.

First, Jeb Bush.

Famously, Jeb’s grandfather, Connecticut Republican Senator Prescott Bush, was a staunch friend and supporter of Eisenhower’s. Elected to the Senate in 1952, the same year in which his friend Ike was elected president, Senator Bush was a serving U.S. senator throughout the period that Eisenhower launched what was known as, yes indeed, really, “Operation Wetback.”

On that June 17, 1954, the New York Times, which ran repeatedly positive and enthusiastic articles about Eisenhower’s project headlined and wrote this as I have detailed over at NewsBusters :

So now we understand why the 60s & 70s had the largest increase of middle class American citizens in history. Proof that Americans will work when given the opportunity.

On Bor’s show this week he claimed he couldn’t find any constitutional legal scholar who supported the intent of the 14th amendment. Thats a lie because Mark Levin had one on his show.

Bor is pro-amnesty.

Check with Sheriff Joe, he tells too, that under Pres. Nixon, he was directed Sheriff Joe to stop drugs coming through the Southern Border - and Mexico worked with him to shut down the flow of drugs passing through the border, where most all drugs passed!

I fail to see why or how Operation Wetback would be known by either of theses 2 fools, For O’Reilly it would have to contain something on Sexually Harassing your Employees for him to be interested. Jeb, Well it wasn’t in his crayon books or part of the Bribe package from Lehman.

"BOR is pro-amnesty"

He certainly is.

Do you see how he covers himself so he's not a target for criticism?

He does it by never letting anybody forget he's "for the Wall".

Hah! Easily said. He is absolutely certain that the Great Wall of Trump will never be built in his lifetime. Therefore, he feels he's on pretty safe grounds...and I tend to agree with him on that point only.

When the day comes that he openly states he's for sending HOME all the illegal, undocumented poachers now in our country to where they're from in South America, Central America, Europe, Africa, Asia and elsewhere, and flat-out says he's ANTI-AMNESTY, then I'll believe this phony-baloney smooth-talker who is well-versed in the art of misdirection behind that smug leprechaun grin.

They're talking about what is politically, administratively, and legally practical today. That differs from what was possible in the 1950s.

Just as, for example, how the way the courts interpret the 14th Amendment now is different from what those who wrote the amendment probably intended. The current interpretation may be wrong, but that doesn't mean it's going to change anytime soon.

Times change and what's possible changes. Roosevelt was able to get away with a lot of stuff in the 1940s that wouldn't fly today -- and shouldn't. People who address the current situation aren't ignorant of what happened in the past. They just aren't focused on what was possible decades ago.

Jeffrey Lord doesn't come across well in this article. The New York Times endorsed large scale deportations in the 1950s? Like they'd do that now?

Since the fiasco debate night I totally tuned off/out FAUX, and I feel much better doing that. I was always annoyed with the self-serving foghorn BOR, that became more and more irrelevant in my eyes. Then I’ve come to the conclusion, when tuning on FAUX at 6PM, you were exposed by see/hear an array of same guys over and over, on a rotating basis, trying to manipulate your thinking into THEIR false thinking which was/is total out of touch with “We the People and “For the People” influenced by Roger Ailes/Murdoch. Bret Bair just follow along. I believe porn-talking Me-GYM got pushed Hannity out one hour with the help of penis conversation with Howard Stern and her seductive bare-ALL photos, crawling through Ailes’ bedroom. I can really recommend boycott FAUX, everyone will be glad they do, I am!!!
