The 'dust lady' of 9/11 dies: Iconic survivor Marcy Borders, 42, succumbs to stomach cancer which she blamed on ash from the Twin Towers attack

• Marcy Borders was a 28-year-old Bank of America worker when she fled the 81st floor of 1 World Trade Center after the first plane struck
• She was on the ground when the second plane hit on September 11, 2001
• AFP photographer Stan Honda took a photo of her running for safety
• Borders became known as 'dust lady' and her picture became iconic
• She fell into a spiral of depression and addiction but became sober in 2011
• In August 2014 Borders was diagnosed with stomach cancer - she died on Monday, aged 42

I have a psychiatrist friend who treated people in the aftermath of 9/11 - people who survived the impact of the falling buildings. No one will know what they went through. No one.

So sad.

It was BOTH truthful AND mean. And not worthy of being said. This poor woman fell apart mentally because of her trauma, and probably very guilty the rest of her life that she lived when so many others she worked with didn’t.

There has been a high number of cancer occurring among 9-11 first responders, in the range of 3,000. It is possible that her mental issues were the civilian equivalent to post-traumatic stress syndrome. However, her cancer may well have been the result of the exposure to superheated and chemical laden dust, as was the case with the police, firefighters, and EMS personnel.

I suspect that the deleted post mentioned the drug problems and/or other problems she had after 9/11.If I'm correct all I can say is that although I consider myself a pretty strong and decent guy I can *easily* see myself having become a raging alcoholic and/or addict if I had experienced what she did.I was in a fire when I was a kid.An electrical short circuit caused it.Nobody in my family was even slightly hurt but I still have bad memories of that day 50 years later.

This woman was no less a victim of the Religion of Pieces than were any of the 3,000 who died.

I hope this lady did get her life turned around and I hope she was vailed in the Righteousness of Jesus Christ when she died. That is my highest hope.

Could years of putting hazardous chemicals in her body have been the cause of her cancer? Maybe large amounts of alcohol with little to no food being dumped on her stomach?
