Texas Senator and Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) accused Fox News Channel anchor Megyn Kelly of asking the question every mainstream media liberal journalist wants to ask and the question Barack Obama wants to focus on on Tuesdays Kelly File on the Fox News Channel.
Cruz was asked about his support for ending birthright citizenship and whether this means he favors amending the Constitution, he answered, Well, as a policy matter, Megyn, it doesnt make any sense anymore, that people who are here illegally, that their children would have automatic citizenship. That what that does is it serves as an incentive encouraging people to break the law and come here illegally. And we ought to change that policy. Now, as you noted there is a legal dispute about the best means to do it. And there are serious scholars who argue that Congress could do it through statute defining what it means to be subject to the jurisdiction, the language of the 14th Amendment. There are other serious constitutional scholars who argue the only way to change it is through a constitutional amendment. My view is we should pursue either or both, whichever is effective. What matters, is that we should change the policy so were not rewarding, and incentivizing, and encouraging more illegal immigration.

Typical politician trying to have it both ways. The reality is that Cruz supports amnesty and increased guest worker programs. Cruz Tries to Claim the Middle Ground on Immigration
But for Mr. Cruz, a Tea Party favorite who represents a state with rapidly changing demographics, finding common ground will not be easy. Many of the bedrock Tea Party supporters who helped elect him are immigration hard-liners who object to even the slightest nod toward amnesty, a loaded word that generally means providing an avenue for legal residency to people who entered the United States illegally. Such conservatives tend to favor mass deportation, or self-deportation, for the millions of undocumented immigrants.
On the other hand, Hispanics in Texas are projected to eclipse the white population sometime in the next decade, and Mr. Cruz cannot afford to alienate large numbers of Latino voters with a strident anti-immigrant tone and a hard-line legislative approach. Major business interests also are supporting a path to citizenship.
What Mr. Cruz has tried to articulate in both word and deed is a middle ground. It got no support from Democrats in Washington, but it goes further than many on the far right want to go by offering leniency to undocumented immigrants here already: A path to legal status, but not to citizenship. A green card with no right to naturalization.
Immigration-reform legislation from the Senates so-called Gang of Eight passed that chamber in June and includes a 13-year path to citizenship. Mr. Cruz pushed unsuccessfully for amendments that would have, among other things, eliminated the citizenship component.
Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.
The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight, he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.
Mr. Cruz said recent polling indicated that people outside Washington support some reform, including legal status without citizenship. He said he was against naturalization because it rewarded lawbreakers and was unfair to legal immigrants. It also perpetuates illegal crossings, he added.
Besides barring citizenship while instituting some level of legalization for those here already, Mr. Cruz has proposed increasing the number of green cards awarded annually, to 1.35 million from 675,000. He also wants to eliminate the per-country limit that he said left applicants from countries like Mexico, China and India hamstrung when they tried to gain legal entry to this country.
A few points. Birthright citizenship has always been wrong he should of know that. Levin says congress is the decider on this he should know that. And last where in his plan to deal with aliens does he kick them off the government dole.
Yes. I do remember the money approved...and now likely spent. Where is it? Where did it go? Which Reps are being held accountable, by their constituents for the Wall Money already passed/budgeted?
Trump is at 40% . Eat that!
Cruz will never be on Megyn’s show again. She better hope Trump/Cruz do not win the election.
That's why I watched the interview myself. Ted Cruz was great as usual, not to answer a "gotcha" question.
Did you hear at the end of the interview that he had 100,000 pastors on his conference call this afternoon about de-funding planned parenthood. I posted an article about it this morning. The thread was up on 'Breaking News' and 'Front Page' for a while and was taken down for some reason.
14th amendment was done in a time with no welfare, America had lots of jobs, lots of space in the west to fill up. It was a diferent America. It was not done to enjure Anchor Babies, it was so freed slaves could be citizens. When it was writen women could not vote—nor could Native Americans. Get rid of welfare and free stuff and the people would just go away—some will still come to build a better life.
I didn’t see it yet,so I’ll reserve my opinion! Cruz best bet as I’ve said before,he’ll ride on the tide of TRUMP! He’s only going up in the polls as is ,Carson because of Trump! All is good so far in getting conservatives on board! Look at it this way, Jeb and Rubio and all others are down or nonexistence! So far it’s a win for Cruz who battles in the senate of GOPe back-stabbing liars! All in All, This is our one time to make a statement to those failing us who we’ve put in office to fight socialism/liberalism mania, but only to be betrayed! Cruz is good but Trump will carry US because he owes nobody and is strong in language and person and he’ll take CRuz with him! I see this happening!
The wall was approved. But the money was never authorized.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tx) put a hold on it.
I didn't think that. I thought the questions were fair. I didn't see a Candy Crowley answer. If I was part of the moderators I may have asked more difficult questions. I want a real conservative as a candidate. Somehow they let Trump through the process. He is to the left of all the other RINOs.
Cruz is a good man...
Tell us more...
That’s right. Then the witch retired.
FR has long had a cadre of ‘conservatives’ that have gone as far as posting anti fence propaganda DIRECTLY CUT AND PASTED from LaRaza affiliated groups.
Likewise, every election, FR sports a number of posters willing to trash actually conservative candidates in favor of ‘lesser evil’ liberals. “No matter what”. Baby parts, illegals...nothing but winning matters. Not conservative principle, not America. Nothing but Charlie Sheen ‘WINNING!”
Gee. Look what they won...
That is because she is a Mainstream Media Liberal.
I wonder if Trump means only a solid wall like concrete. It seems to me that a double appropriately spaced razor fence might be good for the intended purpose. Any cuts and bruises are the responsibility of the ‘came-from’ country. If necessary the US will afford busses for such. Of course even supplying the busses should be a charge against the country of origin.
Compare and Contrast Senator Ted Cruz -vs- Donald Trump on Illegal Immigration (video)
Mr Pinko of the awesome site iOTW has put together a comparative video of Donald Trump VS Ted Cruz when asked the same or similar questions regarding illegal immigration and/or deportation.

I have to disagree. I on the other hand was so shocked by the questions to Trump, that I was too stunned to even hear his answer. It was instant rage. Would he walk off the stage? I wondered that. I had to watch a second time to listen to his answer.
BTW, Brett Baier’s opening question was just as cunning, and shockingly right out of the Establishment Book of Traps for Donald Trump.
Now I hear they are using that issue to keep Trump off the ballot in South Carolina and various other states where they can strong arm.
He needs to cooperate and then bust them. Run as a Republican and break them and run as an Independent if they continue to jack with him.
A three way race. It will be Hillary, YEB, and Trump. I believe Trump takes it regardless, all things being the same as today.
I am confused as to why people are criticizing Cruz for answering the question because saying do both or whichever is legally sound....he is a constitutional scholar who ha argued before the SCOTUS and presumably knows how razor thin the SCOTUS majority opinionnwould be on the subject....
Cruz is very smart.....
The actual answer Cruz should have said is, “The parents are here illegally. They get deported. If they choose to leave their American citizen children here, the children go into foster care until they’re 18. The parents are perfectly within their rights to remove the children back to the parents’ country. The children may then return to the US as any citizen is allowed to do.”
