Texas Senator and Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) accused Fox News Channel anchor Megyn Kelly of asking the question every mainstream media liberal journalist wants to ask and the question Barack Obama wants to focus on on Tuesdays Kelly File on the Fox News Channel.
Cruz was asked about his support for ending birthright citizenship and whether this means he favors amending the Constitution, he answered, Well, as a policy matter, Megyn, it doesnt make any sense anymore, that people who are here illegally, that their children would have automatic citizenship. That what that does is it serves as an incentive encouraging people to break the law and come here illegally. And we ought to change that policy. Now, as you noted there is a legal dispute about the best means to do it. And there are serious scholars who argue that Congress could do it through statute defining what it means to be subject to the jurisdiction, the language of the 14th Amendment. There are other serious constitutional scholars who argue the only way to change it is through a constitutional amendment. My view is we should pursue either or both, whichever is effective. What matters, is that we should change the policy so were not rewarding, and incentivizing, and encouraging more illegal immigration.

Cruz, like Bush can’t say wall. Disappointing.
“Trump is the ONLY candidate promising to build the wall.”
That’s a nice idea and easy to say but useless. The best
and most efficient way is to go after the employers and
make them pay. The criminal employers are the problem that
no one has the balls to face. They are the chief cause
and will be undermining any attempt to do anything about
this situation. Until we have the balls to go after them
all this talk is just that “talk”. To date not one of
these so called conservative republicans have even mentioned
doing anything about the criminals that hire the wetbacks.
Not a peep.
If so, she’s got a for sure job waiting for her at either CNN or MSNBC...They’d LOVE to have her...
Why cant he bring himself to say the word: W A L L,
What is the objective of the exercise: A secure border or a wall?
They're not mutually exclusive, y'know.
And, while we might get a wall from San Ysidro to El Paso, we're not going to get one from El Paso to Brownsville.
Which doesn't necessarily mean the border won't be secure. <
> Speaking for myself, I'm for removing the incentives, securing the border...and waving good-bye.
Cruz is pro wall and has said so.
Cruz favors legalization without citizenship. It is called amnesty. Of course he was evading the question. He says we should enforce the law, but he refuses to say that the illegal alien parents and their children should be sent out of the country to be repatriated.
Oh come on. I'm a Cruz supporter. I expect all the big boys and girls running for President to be able to answer all questions. Megyn will not be the one to ask the most problematic questions. Wait until they get the more liberal MSM debates going. There is no crying in politics.
No news coverage anywhere that Trump did his tweeting during her show. I don’t watch her, but reports are that she had two Trump critics on who were giving him the business, (so that she didn’t have be seen bashing him directly herself).
Naturally, Donald being Donald, he let her have it and gave as good as he gets from her and her show.
She deserves a boycott, imho. I hope it lasts.
you just know the media- fox included- will hammer the republicans over this issue- painting them as ‘uncaring latinophobes’
Border security is a national security issue. Fining employers won't keep out the terrorists, drug dealers, and common criminals. They are not coming here to work.
“Megyn on a mission.”
She is on a mission to protect the GOPe.
She will have the second tier
By Florida Primary Jeb will drop out just like Rudy who bet everything on Florida and lost.
Well that's just about 5 things only Trump is talking about and those are the most important issues in order. Eveyrone should ask them selves why Trump is the only one , what about the others why haven't they talked about deportations of illegals , a wall , China etc?
I know Trump has also called the media out more than the others and stood up to the media and on and on . No wonder Trump is the only one that isn't owned by very rich donors.
“wait to see what he could get bipartisan support for”
He did not say that. He said pursue both options. Sorry, but since wr live in a republic with checks and balances, you can’t just dictate that the 14th amendment doesn’t apply, what if the courts rule otherwise? Do you go to war?
And "the wall" does not have to mean a continuous masonry wall from coast to coast. Even the Israeli security wall is not solid beginning to end. But the commitment to do an effective job has to be there, and that is what has been lacking. Cruz dodges the issue so he doesn't have the commitment either, apparently.
>>What the non-ideological voter is going to hear is a direct question that was dodged, aka just another politician<<
The non-ideological voter isn’t even paying attention at this point. 80 to 90 percent of them couldn’t pick Cruz out of a line up, and of those that could, most couldn’t tell you what he does.
The problem in answering the question is that Cruz would lose all the “build the wall and send them all back” folks if he answers truthfully by saying he has no intention of sending all the anchor babies back, and he would lose all the Hispanic voters if he lied like Trump did and said he would send them all back.
It’s a lose-lose situation because Cruz wants both the Trump voter and the Hispanic voter in the end and as this thread shows, if you answer the question you immediately lose one side or the other.
Handled correctly, Cruz will inherit most of Trump’s voters if Trump falters and he’ll also make good inroads into the Hispanic vote because Hispanics here legally are also fed up with the open border lawlessness Obama has sanctioned.
Murdock’s mission.
A politician’s job, in part, is to conflate many ideas into one.
In sum, Cruz gets it: the solution is to discourage aliens from breaking our laws instead of rewarding them.
How we do that is the rub and remains a major source of contention here.
IMO, secure the border then start going after aliens and their employers—and like we mean it.
There has to be a will to do it.
“Cruz is pro wall and has said so. “
There seems to be a lot of anti-Cruz trolls out tonight putting words into Cruz’s mouth, calling him a wimp. Yikes. Trump is not exactly a god on these matters either.
Well that is reasonable, only IF we had not been set up to believe that finally the RNC had wised up and made a few debate demands of the media and on the number of debates. We were going to, at last, have a discussion of the issues and not an exercise in mortal combat with the damn Lefty panelists!
We were led to believe that FOX would be OUR venue, for the first time in history, where we would be on our turf and have a panel who would make our candidates shine on all fronts, on policy, on challenging the other candidates and getting their ideas on record. Instead it was the worst venue yet. The FOX panel stole the show for themselves, behaving as sharks. JAWS comes to mind.
Now, the opportunity is gone. We were sabotaged.
Don’t worry. It’s not as if the rest of the “debates” won’t be a political knifing for our side. Think how edifying these ridiculous set ups. We learn the best of clever one liners that injure and divide. People are generally on to the game by now. It’s now a ratings jam and sucker’s windfall for the cable companies and networks.
