EPA withholds mine spill documents from Congress

“It is disappointing, but not surprising, that the EPA failed to meet the House Science Committee’s reasonable deadline in turning over documents pertaining to the Gold King Mine spill,” said Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX). “These documents are essential to the Committee’s ongoing investigation and our upcoming hearing on Sept. 9. But more importantly, this information matters to the many Americans directly affected in western states, who are still waiting for answers from the EPA.”

...

For several days, the EPA didn’t notify the states of Utah, New Mexico or the Navajo Nation that the spill was coming their way. McCarthy waited a week before visiting Colorado and even then she refused to tour Silverton, the town nearest the Gold King mine where EPA contractors unleashed the toxic plume into waterways that feed the Colorado River. The agency withheld the name of the contractor working on the project and other details that are generally considered public information.

“It’s pretty clear we are under an oligarchy now...”

Yes, we are. This is a good example of an government agency that is agenda driven, being given a free pass so as not to expose it’s true intentions after those intentions are exposed.

May the State Controlled Media suffer greatly for what they have done to this country.

It’s the best option we have. Even better than electing Cruz.

Agree.

Since our government operates mostly on precedent, the next American President will possess the despotic powers of Obama.

Power-wise, the next prez will have more in common with Hugo Chavez than George Washington.

It is why I doubt the Bamster will allow the election of anyone who possibly threatens his transformation.

"If I were those very fine democrat folks from Las Vegas, I would pay close attention to this EPA caused disaster."

They are almost done with a tunnel under Lake Meade. It is a giant bathtub drain to get water for Vegas. I saw this on the H2 channel over the weekend.

Those heavy metals will settle out right over the drain.

Won't get that far. Will settle out in sediments in the slow running San Juan River or in the far upper reaches of Lake Powell. To get the far end of Lake Mead it would require getting from Lake Powell through the Grand Canyon to the far end of Lake Mead. I'd be more worried about contamination from any untreated sewage from Las Vegas that gets into that lake near the intake.

BTW, the 3-million-gallon toxic spill pales in comparison to the 93-million gallons and 1,100 tons of highly acidic radioactive waste that poured into a small stream in west central New Mexico in July 1979. The release came when a earthen holding pond at United Nuclear's Churchrock uranium mill failed. The Church Rock spill is ranked second only to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in total radiation released to the environment. Like the two underground nuclear tests conducted in New Mexico in the 1960's (December 10, 1961 southeast of Carlsbad and December 10, 1967 east of Farmington), most folks do not have knowledge of what transpired.

How can the EPA redact a document when they are not military, nor state department, nor NSA, nor CIA? EVERYTHING the EPA does is in the public domain, therefore the documents requested should possess absolutely no redacting.

Yup. And the feds are trying to say everything’s gonna be alright. It will be so very little, etc.
I ran into one of these bastards the other day since I live near there. He was spouting the same crap. I asked him if he could prove that drinking water laced with lead over years was safe.

Wouldnt answer me.

Just like IRS employees, BATF employees, and DOJ employees, EPA employees are unprosecuted felons.
