Sorry, ladies, there really is a man shortage
NY Post ^ | 08/25/2015 | Reed Tucker

It’s not your fault. It’s the ratio. To all the young, college-educated women out there who feel like Donald Trump will probably become president before they find a decent, eligible man, take comfort. According to author Jon Birger, you’re not imagining things. In “Date-onomics: How Dating Became a Lopsided Numbers Game,” out today, Birger, a former writer for Fortune and Money magazines, crunched demographic, census and other data to show that it really is historically rough out there for the ladies.

not because they are young so much as because there aren’t any top notch older women available.

Oh man, you're gonna get flamed.

Date the son of a thriving small business. The guy is going to own it and will make a lot more money than most college graduates.

why? because I turned the argument around on them?

They were saying there weren’t enough quality men available to choose from, I just turned their argument against them.

It’s not that there are not any quality men available, it’s just that they are not interested in what’s left over after the best mates were picked over pretty good by their late 20’s

My daughter is an assistant manager at a retail store, owns a late model full size pickup free and clear, lives on her own, pays her own bills, and goes to church. So let me ask you this: is your grandson Catholic?

... To all the young, college-educated women out there who feel ...

"College-educated" is a meaningless descriptor unless they further break it down.

No self-respecting man would shackle himself to a communist indoctrinated female from a sociology, psychology, education, humanities, "xyz studies", or fine arts major. Women should likewise be discriminating in their search for quality men.

Yep. I have seen the same. There is an amazing crab basket mentality which can work the other way, too.

It is sad how many people sabotage their own relationships out of jealousy, envy, or insecurity.

The line in the article which really struck me is where women 'should consider a guy out side their faith'. The Good Book says, "..be ye not unequally yoked". Keep the faith, ladies.

I tell all the decent young fellows I know who are looking for a mate to go to church, if they don't already. Here, the demographic mix is decidedly and overwhelmingly male, with a good few women--and some golddiggers looking to score a guy with a big oilfield paycheck. Those paychecks are generally temporary, as jobs in the patch fluctuate with the price of oil.

Thankfully, this community is far from being as 'sophisticated and urbane' (although there are always some who fancy themselves that way) as more metropolitan areas.

Boring is good. Responsible is good. Women of quality recognize that.

I forgot to add: She’s very attractive. (The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.)

That’s funny. He’s a born again Baptist but a pretty liberal one. He lives in the Texas panhandle - as he says 90 miles from anywhere - although it’s not quite that bad. Great kid - but then he’s my first born grandson. Only child born to my daughter who was killed in an auto accident when he was eleven. I’m very protective of him!!! Would love to see him find someone who would truly love him and want to share life with him.

There’s no shortage of males but there is a shortage of actual MEN.

I have a number of single guy friends. They're straight and they date but they've never been in a relationship for more than a couple of years. They're all terrific guys, they're great friends, but they would make terrible husbands. I think a lot of guys are like that who have been on the single scene for a while.

He sounds a bit like me. I work as a vendor in grocery stores for DiGiorno Pizza, and make a decent amount in a year. The only debt I have is my mortgage, and car payment. I also go to church(Methodist). I never attended college, so no indoctrination to worry about. Only problem is I’m 36, and bald. Like some of the other posters have mentioned, most of the good women were married by the time they were in their late 20’s, so I don’t have a lot to choose from. But, I always hope I’ll find the right woman.

Dealing with a woman is a lost art. The secret is: (lean in close and I will whisper)

A man has to be whipped 90% of the time to make a woman happy. Any less and she will make his life hell. Any more and she will ruin both their lives. That 10% is where he must man up and take control.

I trace a lot of the problem to there being a lack of safe, chaperoned places where children, boys and girls, can interact. Not school and not church, because in those places the adults keep the kids so busy they cannot interact.

Start with this idea: a girl who has brothers, and a boy who has sisters, find it much easier to relate to the opposite gender. Why? Simple, because they have non-sexually interacted with the other gender. A lot.

They see the other gender for what they are: not princes and princesses; not porn stars; not stupid, angry arguers that they see on situation comedies and dramas; and certainly *not* as the answer to all their problems and desires. Instead they are smart and dumb, pretty and ugly, fun and a nuisance to be around, aggravating, exhilarating, interesting, boring, and yes at time they are scary.

In other words, the big lesson is that when you are in a relationship with somebody, you are still you, an individual, and you still have to work, and you still need time to yourself, and you have to give as well as take.

As blindingly obvious as this might seem, those raised in isolation from the opposite gender are shocked by much of this. And after the first five minutes of sex they are at a loss of what to do next.

For the last 30 years or so, women have allowed feminists to feminize men. And in the last few years, the males said, “ I want to join the party!” and have attempted to become females via medical change. A/l/a Bruce Jenner, etal.

If a man wants to be poor and have nothing at the end of his life just go ahead and take one of these girls. They can take more money out the front door with a teaspoon than a man can bring in the back door with a scoop shovel. No Thanks!

When I was in law school back in the ‘80s, there was an active Women’s Law Student organization on campus. They decided to finally have a mixer, with the Med School! They had no others all year.

Now think about this, your 20-something female law student not only is limiting her field to those in one of the few brackets that is potentially as or more elite, but the men in medical school are probably willing to consider a nurse or a plain old B.A. or even a well-spoken lady with a high school degree who can cook and raise children well. Add to that the likelihood that the female law school student is more likely to be contentious (think HRC and M.O.), and completely not in a position to “not use her degree” (student loans at very least), and a good portion of those men (particularly the ones that are also “too religious”) will look elsewhere.
