They have funny accents, wear strange outfits, eat really spicy food and some wear turbans. Indian-Americans constitute less than 1 percent of the U.S. population. Yet you will find them at the helm of great companies such as PepsiCo and MasterCard; as presidents and deans of America’s most prestigious colleges; at the pinnacles of journalism; dominating fields such as technology, scientific research and medicine; --snip-- First, you need to understand the background of this group; it is highly educated and entrepreneurial. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 76 percent of Indian immigrants aged 25 or more have a bachelor’s or higher degree, and the vast majority are proficient at English.

How is it possible that non-white people can have a median annual income (103K) twice the national average? Isn't xenophobia and racism in every American's DNA?

There’s a huge difference among immigrants who come to the US. Indians appear to come and work within the system to make a better life for themselves. Islamic immigrants seem to come, perhaps with the same goal, but to a lesser degree, plus they want to change the US system to Sharia Law. This is where I part company with them. If you don’t want to play by our existing rules, go play somewhere else.

Fremont, CA is about half one big park. I’ve been used to a lot of Indians in Roseville, CA, but in Fremont, it seems like everyone on the street is Indian. The library is great, it’s open late on Saturday. The only weird thing is to see them working in stores: You get used to the idea that they’re an educational elite, to see them working in retail seems a bit of a comedown, but that’s a stereotype.

I’ve been replaced by Indian H1-Bs on many occasions.

Still, I like them, they have a certain spirit, a certain drive that I find very appealing.

Why isn’t India a capitalist paradise? Why doesn’t their tech industry bring in Americans on visas in any quantity? When I was single I would have enjoyed such an adventure.

I think they will be, but they have a lot of history to overcome.

it’s not quite the same american dream.

you see, indians that come to the US are favored over all others by indian hiring managers. it’s been going on in the tech sector for 10+ years.

if whites did this, there would be an outcry. but since a ‘minority’ does it, it’s perfectly fine.

the workers who get hired by U.S. companies are highly skilled.

H-1B Is Designed to Allow Employers to Replace Americans with Cheap Foreign Workers
H-1B Is Designed to Allow Employers to Pay Foreign Workers Extremely Low Wages

Under this system, employers classify

Notice that H-1B workers are "highly skilled" when industry wants more of them, but those very same workers become low-skilled when determining what they have to be paid.

“Why doesn’t their tech industry bring in Americans on visas in any quantity?”

Why would they bring in lazy, poorly educated, self-entitled Americans when they know they have millions of hard working, better equipped, better educated people in their own backyard? Quite frankly they don’t need us and couldn’t afford us for what little we would bring to them.

Does India have a tech industry - apart from selling inferior tech services at bargain rates to American corporations who can't see past the next quarterly financial report?

Oh please, this is just a H1-B propaganda piece

Granted they don't bring crime and welfare other groups do, but they are far from the "perfect" immigrant this article makes them out to be.

There's a reason why a country supposedly full of people with strong family values and strong work ethics is still a 3rd world $¶¡+¶°£Σ

They are just another entitled race who thinks YT owes them and they are racist to the core. Just look at any pharmaceutical company, if the manager of a department last name is Desai or Patel then all the workers under him/her last names will be Desai or Patel.

Why isn’t India a capitalist paradise?

Because it's modern-day founders were more interested in turning it into a Socialist paradise. Combine that with a stifling government bureaucracy inherited from the British and you have a nation whose best and brightest decide to leave to get rich here.
