Fed up over wages well below market and what they say is salary-sparked turnover in their ranks, a group of California state scientists is planning something unusual for state workers in professional classifications: a rally to air grievances at the Capitol

I worked for the State of California after receiving my science degree for about six months. Could not handle the inane bureaucracy and waste of my time. Not a bad gig though. 13 paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, family leave, great benefit package, early retirement, accrued vacation and sick leave for duration of employment and oh yes you can not get fired. These folks need to realize just how good they have it.

Nobody’s tying them to their jobs, is there?

If they are not happy with their career, there’s always private sector they can compete with everybody else.

Well, the article says there’s a lot of turnover.

However, when this happens, those who cannot get jobs elsewhere remain. They build up over time, making everything worse.

I know.

“Talent Turnover” should tell us (the readers) most, if not all, there’s to know.

People who settled for stability of their jobs will have to pay for other consequences.

Rita Hypnarowski, named in the article as a senior environmental scientist at Cal EPA, makes $82,300 per year. You can look up the salaries of all state workers here:

Actually, compared to many other state workers, she is underpaid. There are many thousands that make mind-blowingly larger salaries. So, yes, underpaid compared to others. But perhaps the others are just overpaid.

They should check out some commie countries like Cuba and North Korea and see what doctors, professors and such earn. One article said a professor earned so little, he was selling higher grades.

“Actually, compared to many other state workers, she is underpaid. There are many thousands that make mind-blowingly larger salaries.”

In a politicized system, what matters is clout, not ability - these technical types need to study the teachers unions to see how even the most incompetent of the lot can command lavish salaries. At least that’s how we do it in Illinois - the more votes the teachers unions deliver, the more ridiculous their level of compensation.
