“Muzzle Thumping” was the phrase used... Me? I’d used the butt plate.

That was my first thought too, but it is way better to use the barrel end of the rifle since that keeps the trigger away from the terrorist, and allows the person doing the thumping to switch to shooting if they have to. If you are using the butt plate to hit the terrorist if he can grab the weapon it is pointed away from him, not at him, and he might be able to recover control of it.
