Unarmed US Marine 'in critical condition' after Kalashnikov-wielding suspected terrorist on board high-speed train between Amsterdam and Paris.
An unarmed US Marine who ambushed a Kalashnikov-wielding gunman on a train between Amsterdam and Paris is in critical condition, according to French media reports.
The serviceman, who has not been named, was one of two Americans who tackled the 26-year-old Moroccan national to the ground after hearing him load up a gun in the toilet.
In the scuffle, one of the Marines was shot and another stabbed. France Info reports one is in a critical condition.
Addressing reporters at the station in Arras, northern France, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said: 'I would like to express our gratitude to and admiration for these two American passengers.'
He added: 'Thanks to the calm composure of the two American passengers, we have avoided a tragedy. 'Without them we would have face something terrible.'

The terrorist had nine clips of ammo. He was looking to kill as many passengers as could. Fortunately, the two Marines heard him chambering the rounds in the toliet and confronted him. They prevented a mass murder.

Let’s give those French officials and press people (European and American) a break. They don’t know the cause of this attack or the leanings of the shooter.
Any more than they don’t know the cause or the racial makeup of an attacking mob in the US when 10 people of one race “randomly” select a single individual of a different race who just happened to walk by and just happened to be a different race. It could be anything, anything at all, as long as they don’t have to name the cause, the race of the mob, or the race of the victim.
The shouting by the mob of racial epithets as they pummel an innocent “random” person is no more an indicator of racial violence than the presence of a AK-47 armed-Middle Eastern Muslim man, between the ages of 18 and 55 on a train of Westerners, with a whole boatload of fully loaded magazines who shouts “Allahu Akbar” as he sprays bullets is an indication of terrorism.
People on FR are just way too prejudicial and intolerant.

I’m sure they recognized the sound, but it’s still pretty impressive that they took it seriously. It’s normal to say to yourself, “Nah, it can’t be.”
And then they were brave enough to face an armed man, unarmed.
