Jeb Bush, as he often notes, co-wrote a book two years ago called "Immigration Wars," laying out a path to reforming America's immigration system. In the six chapters of the book, two phrases never appear: "sanctuary cities" and "anchor babies."
But in a six-point immigration proposal he released earlier this month, the former Florida governor included a plan to crack down on cities that don't cooperate with federal authorities on immigration law enforcement.
Now, Bush has invoked the term "anchor babies," the idea that some women enter the U.S. illegally simply so they can have babies who are U.S. citizens, which might make it easier for those women and their families to then become citizens too. Many, particularly in the Latino community, find this phrase offensive.
These two new phrases in Bush's lexicon raise two questions. Is Bush simply speaking clearly about policy challenges, as he and his aides argue, or pandering to anti-immigrant voters amid the rise of Donald Trump? And by using these phrases, particularly "anchor babies," is Bush violating the informal pledge he made to "lose the primary to win the general" and taking steps that would make it harder for him to win a general election?

Jeb Bush is like “Me too! Me too!”
Yes. Temporarily. Should he be elected all will be forgotten.
Yeb, “What Donald Said!”.
Jeb will say anything to get elected. He isn’t changing his tune, not one bit.
“What Donald Said”
Several of the candidates should use that as their campaign slogan. Save them and us a lot of time.
Ok...Ok...they’re not “anchor babies”, they’re babies that Planned Parenthood didn’t get to first!
Even if JEB changed his tune, if nominated he would change it back...or possibly wait until actually elected (if he could beat Shrillary or Bozo Biden, which is doubtful).
I don’t trust him, period.
Seems like it. Too bad we remember...the entire base remembers...
Go home jeb...no one wants you.
No. If there is any “change” its a lie and temporary.
Today I post this outside the city of Quetzaltenango. In a school, little children all spoke about the DREAM of their life is to visit the USA to see their Daddy, and one girl talked about Momma and Daddy being in the USA. I went to the local Package Delivery business, they hire MULES to take packages to loved ones, not far away are Western Union shops which receive the money sent from the USA. This area where I am is in sore shape. I don’t know HOW they can develope their own roads, bridges, schools and homes, when the labor force is in the USA. I just BEG Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, or Trump to decide whatever they come up with as LAW, to apply it 100% of the time in 100% of the cases. This never knowing if one will be able to cross the desert, and not knowing if they will get their residence cards, is playing on the gamblers to invest in businesses that are NOT legitimate.
My spin, having lived MOST of my life SOUTH of the Rio Grande, is that YOU HAVE gotten the dregs of society, and the HONEST, the law abiding people who didn’t get the visa, stayed home. THESE are the ones you should desire to come and work in your yard.
Guatemalans pay $110 for an INTERVIEW to get a visa, upfront, whether they get a visa or not, they pay $110 plus a $5.00 fee to make an appointment. Over 66% of those who apply are refused. THESE folks have bag feelings about how HARD they worked to come legally to the USA, and how easy it is for those who come with no passport, falsified names and laugh at the rules.
ALL of the INS, Immigration Naturalization Services are backlogged, and the phone menu prompt is a JOKE> The system is totally broken, and someone needs to attend to getting things back on track.
I dont’ know how to SCREAM on Freerepublic...but I would toss this into the RING of ideas for Ted Cruz or for Ben Carson...a system similar to the DRAFT system, in time of WAR, peoples names were randomly selected from a list...and have a LOTTERY game, with everyone who applied legally, and after Congress has approved a certain amount of Mexicans can apply for permanent status, put ALL of the names in the POT< and bring a blind boy from the Bronx, and let him pull out the names of all those who WON. God says that the casting of the lots...is of the Lord. Proverbs 16 v.33.
IF a few thousand Mexicans got sent back to Mexico, HEY, it’s not all that bad now days. It’s like Chicago or Los Angelos...
Yes, Jebbie is even pretending that he’d enforce the border to cut down on the anchor baby problem (though he still favors birthright citizenship for those in the US illegally).
Bush can change his tune, but he won’t change his dance.
That’s really cute, CNBC talking like Yeb still has a snowball’s chance.
The Devil made him do it. LOL
Yeah I have about as much faith in Bush’s change of heart as I do in Hillary’s ability to secure a server.
Listen Perry Bacon Jr., you're about as intelligent as a melting bowl of vanilla ice cream. Donald Trump is NOT anti-immigrant. No one is as long as it's done LEGALLY. Using the term "anti-immigrant" is a gross mis-characterization of what was said and is only meant to inflame. Jackwagon
Now he has flip-flopped.
Yesterday he began the attacks.
