A Culture Clash Over Guns Infiltrates the Backcountry

SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah — As a lover of ancient rock art, Steve Acerson usually roams Utah’s backcountry searching for images of hunters and rams carved on boulders and canyon walls. But one morning, on a hillside speckled with those prehistoric petroglyphs, he was also finding signs of a younger civilization: Shotgun shells. Bullets. Shredded juniper trees. Exploded cans of spray paint.

“It’s all been shot,” he said. “It’s just destroying everything.”

America’s cultural divide over guns has gone into the woods. As growing numbers of hikers and backpackers flood national forests and backcountry trails searching for solitude, they are increasingly clashing with recreational target shooters, out for the weekend to plug rounds into trees, targets and mountainsides.

Ahhhh. That explains the uptick in vagrants camping out on our ball field and polluting our bathrooms (would it kill you to push the damn flush handle!?). Our little Northern California hamlet serves as a wayfair for attendees hitchhiking to Reno from their cardboard boxes in San Francisco.

They must use their trail of litter and their lingering odor to find their way home.

For brothels, casinos, or both?

Jamming is the best way to learn the guitar, IMHO. I learned by joining a “garage band” back in the 60s. It wasn’t long before we had a full fledged band and were playing all over the state. As a teenager, I always had money in my pocket.

Burning Man.

Oh, man. Didn't even think of the brothels. Poor girls. Ah, well. Nuthin' for them to worry about. These freeloaders can't afford 'em. Besides, I don't think they like girls.

City beta male pussies try to play alpha for a weekend and are then horrified when they stumble upon the remnants of true alphas.

Roger that. Me too. Now I play for fun and NO profit other than brain gain. I’ve run into some players that have me baffled they’re so friggin’ good. I have to say that, coming out of a structured/rehearsed band and now doing open jams, I think my playing has improved. They only bad part is you never know who you’re gonna end up playing with. Sometimes it turns out, uh, not great and other times you wish someone had recorded the performance. Rock on Dude!

I thought Burning Man was for well off reprobates. Isn’t the ticket like $400?

The NYT is opening up a new front against guns, and it overlaps with the radical environmentalists desire to prohibit the common man from living in, or even visiting “nature”, which they believe should be reserved for the elites.

Think Agenda 21.

The eco-freaks become enraged at the very idea of ordinary people enjoying nature in any way. They always emphasize that ordinary people are destructive and filthy creatures who destroy nature and leave garbage lying about. Unlike them, who find inspiration in nature to write bad poetry, while little creatures frolic about them like Snow White.

2) I suspect that he found one site where some idiot made a mess, and is acting like such messes are the norm.

That's what happened. He's some meddling urban fag and found a site that's likely used by target shooters and plinkers and broadened it to include all wilderness.

A college I attended had a shooting range on campus. Some anti gunners found a casing. A case from a straightwall pistol caliber. I didn't see it up close but it looked like a 38 special case. They insisted that the case itself was lethal and therefore the range should be shut down.

It was kommiefornia. And they shut the range down.

I hate these meddling faggots.

It’s about the irresponsible behavior, choice of targets, and not cleaning up after themselves.

Its NOT about guns.

“Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints.”

Great advice if you’re in the woods. Creepy advice if you’re in a stranger’s house at 3am...

Quote: “Anything you don’t want in your garage, you take out there and shoot,” said Mr. Acerson, a retired state transportation worker.”

Retired-— older male.

No female companion. suppositionally queer. (go into the great outback w/out a female? Needs head examined).

State transportation worker— well, he’s not a rural DOT guy. More like subway toll taker.

We have enough issues trying to deal with bloomin' idiots millions of dollars and I sure don't want to add enviro wackos to list of those tolerant people who don't tolerate much.

Exactly right.

I'm not an anti-gun nut-burger by any stretch of imagination, just the opposite in fact. I own guns for both self/home defense and recreational use, and I have a concealed carry permit. I currently own and use 7 long guns and 6 handguns of various types and chamberings.

Most, if not all, of the damage to both public and private property that I find almost everywhere in this area, and most of the areas where I travel, is not only illegal it's costing us the much needed political support of millions of voters who don't own guns, and in fact don't have a clue as to what the 2nd Amendment is all about.

The 2nd A was put there to protect private possession of firearms for all lawful purposes, but not to protect irresponsible uses that harm property, endanger other people, and almost guarantee that government will eventually find a way to deprive law abiding gun owners of our 2nd A rights.

I don't know the answer to the problem, but you can be sure that billionaire anti-gunners such as Bloomberg, Gates, Soros, Buffet, etc, etc, think they have the answer and will continue to push their anti-gun agenda with vast wealth and political influence that all the pro-2nd A orgs combined can't match.

Jamming is the best way, agreed. The second best way to learn the guitar is to turn on the radio and try to duplicate what you hear. Every song in whatever key is used. Very fast learning.

A turn through the manuals of Troy Stettina is really enlightening and will get you up and running in nothing flat. Man they are good. The man has a real talent for instruction.

One of his manuals has, as your first song, “Whips and Chains”, an excellent hard rock piece. None of the “Go Tell Aunt Rhodi” bs that you get with most guitar instruction manuals.
