Politico's Michael Hirsh: Why Can't the Jews See Obama, Carter Have 'Saved' Israel?

Former Newsweek reporter Michael Hirsh is now with Politico, but one consistent threat of his writing has been a fondness for the foreign policy “doves.” His latest Politico piece on the Iran deal is headlined “Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama and the Jews: Why does America’s Jewish community always condemn the presidents who save Israel?”

One can imagine Israelis doing a spit take on that headline. This is the same Jimmy Carter who wrote a book trashing Israel for having a racist “apartheid” system that oppresses the Palestinians. They'd also worry this only inflates Carter's massive ego.

Absolutely true. FDR despised Jews and Catholics, He denied refugee to the Jews in U.S. is spite of knowing of the Nazi extermination camps. Remember the St Louis Ship.!!!!

The records of the Casablanca Conference contain the clearest and most significant evidence concerning the President attitudes toward the Jews and the basic reason why he did nothing to end the anti-refugee policy of the United States.

The conference took place in January 1, 1943 in the middle of the period when the mass murder of Jews was taking place in Europe. By this time, Roosevelt knew nearly everything about these atrocities. Roosevelt had been informed over the years by American diplomats and American press reports about the Jewish condition in Europe.1 Moreover, in December 1942 the Polish government in exile had accurately informed the U.S. government of many of the facts of the Holocaust.

Yet at Casablanca, Roosevelt amazingly seemed to sympathize with Nazi discrimination against Jews. He proposed to Generals Noguès and Giraud that the French government in North Africa discriminate against the Jews of French North Africa just as Hitler had done in Germany before the war .2) Roosevelt stated that the number of Jews engaged in the practice of the professions . . . should be definitely limited to the percentage that the Jewish population in North Africa bears to the whole North African population. He endorsed the same plan for Germany.

Limiting the number of Jews in the professions, he stated, would further eliminate the specific and understandable complaints which the Germans bore toward the Jews in Germany, namely, that while they represented a single part of the population, over 50 per cent of the lawyers, doctors, school teachers, college professors, etc., in Germany were Jews. 3)

I know that story quite well. They did not perish.

That ‘myth’ has been hashed out and debunked numerous times over many years here on FR.

They were turned away because Americans had decided to turn off the immigrant stream because of hard times at home. FDR was not popular in his 2nd term and he swung hard right to go with the will of Americans during the worst economic crisis of the nation’s history.

FDR had more members of his administration that were Jewish than any previous administration.

FDR was not anti-Jewish at all.

With friends as FDR, Carter or Obama, Israel does not need enemies.

Is incomprehensible to me why Jews vote 85 % democrat and Blacks vote 95% for the party of slavery, the KKK, and the segregation.

Jewish leaders ask Allies to bomb railway lines to concentration camps

The posturing with strong public declarations followed by the empty deeds of the allied leaders did not save any Jewish lives. On June 6, 1944, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, the well known Zionist leader, later president of Israel, proposed to the British Minister, Anthony Eden, that the railway line to Auschwitz should be bombed. The British, after consultation, denied the request alleging the “great technical difficulties involved.” As the Jews died by the thousands daily, why was there not a rescue plan on the Allied side to counter the Nazi machinery of extermination? The Allies had already dropped tens of thousands of bombs on German cities. Why was that simple request which would have saved hundreds of thousands Jews and Christians refused? Later on, J.F. Martin, chief private secretary of Winston Churchill, explained “the great technical difficulties.” In a letter to Dr. Weizmann he wrote that they had discussed the matter with the Soviets and that the Soviets vetoed it.

When the evacuation of over 60,000 Jews from Bulgaria was suggested, Eden replied that the whole problem with the Jews was very difficult. “If we do that (said Eden) then the Jews of the world will be wanting us to make similar offers in Poland and Germany.” (11)In 1943, there was a memorandum from British embassy sent to the U.S. State Department expressing their fear that the Germans may “change over from a policy of extermination to one of extrusion, and aim, as they did before the war, at embarrassing other countries by flooding them with refugees.” The State Department blocked, with Roosevelt’s connivance, efforts in Congress to help the Jewish refugees on their way to Palestine.
