Donald Trump, Moderate Republican
The New York Times ^ | 8/15/15

Donald Trump may be the “post-policy candidate,” but when you strip away the bluster and the outrageous commentary that have defined his campaign to find his occasional, substantive statements about public policy, a surprising fact emerges: Mr. Trump is a moderate Republican.

I realize this sounds like an odd claim, but stay with me for a bit. First you must keep in mind the Republican party context in which Mr. Trump is running.

Wow, an attempt to kill him by claiming him. I’ve heard this meme before. Nice try, but neither the media or the GOPe gets to write the script. We would rather hear the whole statement from the Donald rather than the cobbled up clips.

And if conservatives are this amped about a moderate republican, tells you a lot about the rest of the field.

I voted for a “tea party” conservative republican senator in Florida. He (Rubio) teamed up with Schumer to pass amnesty. Trump has single handedly brought immigration to the fore front of issues. All of our “conservative’ leaders (except Cruz) have run from the issue or pandered to the GOPe. You can call Trump a Communist liberal, as long as he stands with the families of people killed by illegal aliens and demands a closed border, he has my ear and potential vote.

The Spews at the NYT know all the clumbsy techniques of manipulation. Some will be willing to believe the nonsense. Yes Wow.

It's almost unheard of to find a "moderate Republican"

Almost by definition, all Republicans are extremists. I mean, Jeb Bush is an extremist, right? Mitt Romney was "severely Republican", remember?

On the one hand, you could say that is Trump is "Moderate" then he must be waaaaaaaaaaaay over on the Left -- but I don't think the NYT is hinting at that.

I think the NYT is simply recognizing that Trump is a mixed bag. Most Conservatives already know this. I think Trump is OK. My #1 is Cruz. I find Trump useful because he gets people talking about things (the unfairness of the media, illegal immigration, tax reform, etc.) But where I say Trump is far from perfect, the NYT says he is "Moderate".

And the flipside is certainly interesting:

Barack Obama: Democrat
Elizabeth Warren: Democrat
Charles Schumer: Democrat
Nancy Pelosi: Democrat

There are no Moderates or Conservatives or Liberals at all on the other side -- they're just plain ol' regular run-of-the-mill Democrats. Wouldn't hurt a fly, doncha know.

It’s not nonsense. Without reading the article I can tell you the following from Trump’s recent comments...

Will expedite the return of the “good” illegal immigrants after deporting them.

Thinks single-payer health care is great and works great in other countries like Canada and Scotland, but the time has passed for us to have it here.

Wants the government to fund Planned Parenthood and women’s health, except for abortions.

Wants to charge tariffs on imports from some companies in some situations.

Opposes the flat tax and fair tax, wants to preserve a progressive/graduated income tax system where the wealthier pay higher rates.

“Loves” the idea of campaign finance reform, says contribution limits are “okay.”

Approves of federal minimum wages.

Against both the first and second Iraq war and thinks we’d be better off if Saddam Hussein stayed in power.

It’s a step up from the liberal GOPe we have in DC. With our help we can push him rightward.

Yet he has the audacity to keep claiming that he’s “conservative.” (As Obama claimed he was fiscally conservative...remember?)

One more thing. The minute Trump entered the ring, he became a “politician.” And just like any untrustworthy politician, he’ll say what ever he needs to say to get elected.

Not even close to being a conservative...

Supported Planned Parenthood this week
Supported a single payer option in the debate last week
Supported TARP
Supported assault weapons ban
Supported extending waiting period to purchase guns
Supported one-time tax on wealthy to pay down debt

The #1 issue threatening America today is Political Correctness.

We can’t call a muslim terrorist a muslim...because PC.
We can’t call a person who has illegally entered our country an illegal immigrant...because PC.
We can’t tell a non-working minority to pull their pants up and get a job...because PC.
We can’t decline to bake a cake for a gay wedding...because PC.
We can’t come out against the murder of unborn babies without “agreeing” that it is OK “to save the life of the mother”...because PC.
You can’t call America a melting pot...because PC.

The list is endless. PC is killing us as a nation. It is the root cause of most of our problems today, and Trump is campaigning against THAT and not just touching on all the symptoms of PC Poisoning.

Donald Trump is a “moderate Republican” (i.e. RINO) on a number of issues, but he is one who is willing and capable of ripping the fifth-column media for their radical leftist, demonicrat-fondling propaganda.

At this early stage of the campaign Trump makes a good point man. And his bombardment of the leftist media will establish a valid precedent when the conservatives weigh later.

Sorry, on immigration he is to the right of Attila the Hun. The Times takes another fear mongering tactic.

That’s pretty much how I see him. It’s why I love his keeping important stuff in the front, but would not really want to see him as the nominee.

I like to see him as running a screen for the likes of Cruz.

Nailed the core here. And the key words are, of course, “except Cruz”.

Man, they are trying everything with this guy. He’s a Tea Party nut. He’s a RINO. He’s a liberal. He’s a Clinton stalking horse. He’s a moderate.

As Trump would say, call me what ever you want. But don’t forget to call me a winner.
