A federal judge in Kentucky ordered a county clerk on Wednesday to resume issuing marriage licenses despite her religious objections to same-sex marriage, a ruling that was quickly appealed.

U.S. District Judge David Bunning granted a preliminary injunction against Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis that had been requested by eight people, including two same-sex couples, who sued Davis last month for violating their rights.

Bunning said Davis had to live up to her responsibilities as county clerk.

A manager cannot let every employee decide what parts of a job they will do and what they won’t do. That’s anarchy.

No, anarchy is the degeneration of authority into tyranny, as "whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends."

But in that obedience which we hold to be due to the commands of rulers, we must always make the exception, nay, must be particularly careful that it is not incompatible with obedience to Him to whose will the wishes of all kings should be subject, to whose decrees their commands must yield, to whose majesty their sceptres must bow. And, indeed, how preposterous were it, in pleasing men, to incur the offense of Him for whose sake you obey men!

The Lord, therefore, is King of kings. When He opens His sacred mouth, He alone is to be heard, instead of all and above all. We are subject to the men who rule over us, but subject only in the Lord. If they command anything against Him let us not pay the least regard to it, nor be moved by all the dignity which they possess as magistrates– a dignity to which no injury is done when it is subordinated to the special and truly supreme power of God.
[John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion.]

"Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God".

Cordially,

I’m assuming this wasn’t in her job description when she hired on.

The midwives refused the Pharoah’s ungodly order to kill the Hebrew firstborn..despite their obligation to obey their ruler. It is ungodly to follow an order to Marry Gays..constitution or not! The Constitution was founded on the principle that Godly men would allow themselves to be Constitionally bounded based on Christian morality. The founding fathers admitted that such a constitution could only work under the aegis of a population governed by consciences ruled by Christian principles. The clerk is doing her duty, the Supreme court did not! The constitution was not designed for a pagan society, thus the battle has begun whether Christians and nonchristians like it or not. The nonChristians have shown themselves unwilling to follow constitutional principles any ways even when rulings have gone against them. In such a state the Christians are bound to ultimately follow God’s laws even if the society goes against them. Many forget that Christianity thrived when all of Rome stood against them...Christianity can thrive again even if this nation should try to destroy it!

She can quit that job and get another where she doesn’t have to deal with the issue of homosexuality.

The honorable thing would be for her to stand her ground until she is forceably removed! Let the dishonor fall on those that remove her!

The message in your tagline doesn’t matter much if we’ve already surrendered and are groveling before lawlessness and wickedness.

Chaplains in Kentucky prisons are no longer to preach homosexuality as sin.

Ok, fine. And when muslims don’t want to carry blind riders with guide dogs in their cabs or ring up bacon at Target, you be sure to support them.

Why should she willingly surrender her means of making a living to accommodate the enemies of God? When she took the job did she have any inkling that her job would one day require her to violate a higher duty to God? I believe if it were me in her place, though, I would personally choose to resign...when the first deviant duo showed up.

Why should this clerk be legal last week but illegal this week, and he hasn't changed anything at all? What suddenly makes him unable to perform a job that he's been exemplary at for years?

At this point, civil disobedience is the right answer. When they come to the desk asking for this service, the clerk should suddenly have chest pains, or diarrhea, or nausea, and have to go take a break. It's not his fault if he gets sick.

There is no statute which authorizes this clerk to issue a marriage license to a same sex couple.

Until there is a new statute, the clerk has no authority to issue the licence. Even if she wanted to, she has no statutory authority to do so.
