The allegation is that Emmerich, by choosing a white protagonist from middle America (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) to tell his story, is trying to deny others, specifically trans persons of color, their rightful place as the true heroes of Stonewall.
Rhys Meyers is the actor, and he's Irish, but I guess we get what the writer's trying to say.
This is all based on a relatively recent myth that it was the transvestites (as they were then known) who were at the vanguard of the riot, leading the pasty, limp-wristed, white, gay crowd to courage they could never have summoned on their own. “Stonewall” stands accused of perpetuating a racist and anti-trans version of the past.
Nah, the real tough guys must have been the lesbians.

You're probably right. But in this age of extreme political correctness, no one would dare make a movie about the real Stonewall.

In real life, in the 1970's, I don't think the white gays at Stonewall would have been particularly welcoming of black transvestites there. I think the gay blacks went to their own places.

The raid started like many others. The police entered, turned on the lights, and began separating patrons from the people who worked there, including the mafia bosses who ran the illegal club...
The NYPD didn’t really care what went on in Stonewall, they did care about the extortion and blackmail.
The rioters were MOB inspired, they were loosing their cash cow...
Boy, I would have loved to have had the ticket concession for this one.
