Trump way up in post-debate poll

Donald Trump saw his lead over his Republican presidential rivals grow substantially in the days following both the first GOP debate and his controversial comments about debate moderator Megan Kelly.

Trump’s support increased by 7 points to 32 percent, according to this week’s Morning Consult tracking poll.

The real estate mogul’s closest rival — Jeb Bush — lost a point, dipping to 11 percent of the vote among self-identified Republicans and Republican-leaning independents.

Support for all other candidates was in the single-digits.

Cruz has actually proven he’s an outsider by getting elected and fighting the establishment every step of the way. We actually know how he would govern. We have no idea how Trump would govern since he’s flip-flopped his party and positions so many times.

Meanwhile, Trump’s fighting for his life here, taking hits to his business, his career, his future in the public, and refuses to backdown on the issues we care about. He’s offered himself up for public abuse every freaking day.

I don’t care how imperfect he is; the man fights! He loves America! And I like him!

You have to be truly confused to accuse Ted Cruz supporters of being an establishment RINO.

I'm not confused. I'm a Cruz supporter, who is sick and tired of the ignorant lambasting coming from so-called "Conservatives". Regan was a democrat at one point, too. Get with the program. If you can't see why folks are getting behind Trump, you got bigger problems.

Lesson Learned:

Smacking the media around is a winning strategy.
Just about everyone has had enough of their smug conceit.

The Morning Consult national tracking poll was conducted Aug. 7 through Aug. 9 among a national sample of 2,029 registered voters. The poll, conducted online, carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points. The subsample of 746 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.59 percentage points. The subsample of 896 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.27 percentage points.

Poll is a sham...it isn’t a Republican poll.

He can win easily if he gets to the finals.

Lol. Guess I shoulda added the /sarc tag. :) Of course he can win. What's more, if anyone had a shot at winning as a 3rd party candidate, it would be Trump, for the reasons you stated.

I would be happy to cast my vote for Ted Cruz should he get the nomination. If Trump gets the nomination, he'll have my vote as well.

Still too soon to get worked up about who I vote for in the primary - still too far away and too much can still happen. Trump might not even be still in the race come primary time.

Ted Cruz is, without a doubt, the most capable, eloquent, thoughtful, and fearless conservative that this country has seen since Reagan, and, he may even exceed Reagan in all departments. However, it is also equally certain that the Republican branch of the DC Cartel wants conservatives to rally around Cruz, not Trump. Because Cruz, as great as he is, has little chance of winning the primary, a primary whose playing field has been specifically designed to prevent conservatives from winning. And if did win the primary, he would have to win the general with only token Republican support. And if he made it past those two obstacles, he would be a president that could count on very little support from his own party, and none outside of his own party.

It is for this reason that Trump, not Cruz, provides the only realistic chance for conservatism to flourish, even though Trump is arguably not even conservative, and Cruz is the epitome of principled, competent, and eloquent conservatism.

Uh it says Republican subsample that’s what the primary numbers are. Legit poll and Trump is killing it. Sucks for you

Seriously like we’d be doing jumping jacks for John McCain, Mitt Romney or Bob Dole.

Plug my nose and always vote GOP even though I’ve hated the insiders since they (avoid racist comment) ran Pat Buchanan off.

They like the tough talk of Trump and are
Hoping he is a conservative.

They ignore the fight that Cruz has been
Waging and his honesty and toughness. There
Is no guessing. He is a conservative.

Go figure!!

Rush has been saying this for over 20 years. But, no the sh!t for brains at the GOPe are smarter than him.

Trump has no chance of winning!

He's going to drop out.
He's a stalking horse for Hillary.
He's just doing it for his ego.
Hillary and Bill planned this all last year.
He's a liberal and wants to hurt Conservatives.
He's a loose cannon waiting to explode.
He's just a reality show actor.
He actually doesn't have much money.
He's a lousy businessman because some companies declared bankruptcy.
He beat his wife.
He picks his nose.

“Yep, I was hoping FR at least could be counted on to back the only true, consistent conservative in the race”

This is a forum for debate, not just agreement.

You’re telling me, “Don’t vote for Cruz because he can’t win.” That’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. I’m telling you, vote for him because we can make him win. If he had all Trump’s support, he’d be in the lead. Is Trump’s support more likely to go to Jeb?

Trump’s negatives are huge, so it’s unlikely he has much room to grow in the polls. Many people will never switch their vote to him.

It’s up to us to decide who we rally around. Cruz has a very good chance of winning the primary. People will like him the more they see of him. One poll already shows he gained the most from the debate. He’s got more money raised than anyone but Bush. As other candidates drop out, Cruz more likely to gain their votes than Jeb, since most candidates polling well are more conservative than Jeb.

I don’t vote based on who the party will or will not support. Everything you say about the party not supporting Cruz applies doubly to Trump. The party didn’t want Reagan but he won the general election.

So, then, is it based on the 600 plus Republican voters or the whole 2000 registered voters?

He didn’t lose his lead, but the NBC poll showed he only gained one point. Cruz gained 7 points, the most of anybody after the debate.

Yep. Do you know of a single person whose support Trump gained over the last 4 day circus? I don’t. He might not have lost enough to relinquish his lead completely, but he is on his way back to the pack.
