Donald Trump may soon do what Republican leaders have been asking the billionaire candidate to do -- pledge not to run as an independent candidate for president, a senior Trump adviser told ABC News.

Trump refused to take that pledge at the start of Thursday's GOP debate but is now seriously considering promising not to run as an independent if he does not win the Republican nomination, the adviser said.

I’ll pledge not to eventually support the nominee. Jeb Bush will not get my support. Neither will Christy and a host of others.

I don’t buy into the whole premise.

We didn’t have a third party when Obama got elected twice.

Exactly. I realize that getting my news and gauging the political climate by reading Free Republic thread gives me a very skewed vision of what’s happening in the US, but it’s difficult to see such staunch opposition to ANYONE even somewhat moderate so long before the election.

Trump either stays on the attack or withers away.

It should be a strategic decision, but the truth is that he can ALWAYS hedge by saying, “I pledge provided fair treatment.”

I fully support your addendum to the pledge (and we could add Rand Paul, Santuckabee ... too)

No, I think he should have Rupert Murdock, the other FOX head, and the GOP heads all come out and PLEDGE they will not try to sabotage Trump’s candidacy in any way.

If Trump gets assurances then Trump should say if they keep their part of the bargain I’ll keep mine and won’t run on a third party.

Fox News knows exactly how many people are watching because the cable service providers like Comcast, Frontier, etc know which channels you are tuned in to.

Huge difference between who buys the political favors and who sells them. Governor of Illinois, is in prison because he was selling the favors.

I suspect this is one of the things that Ted Cruz talked to Don Trump about during that meeting all those weeks ago. I honestly believe this is all a strategy. I’m thinking if Cruz is the eventual nominee, then Trump will throw his support behind Ted. But if Jeb, or some other RINO is the nominee, I suspect Trump will run as a third party candidate.

Agreed. Both Parties are the problem. Many that were affiliated with both are beginning to wake up that our country is being sold out by political corruption and cronyism.

“Third party? Where’s the 2nd Party?”

We have a “uni party” today owned and operated by the establishment. Their goals are (1) to make Americans think the D/R are different, and (2) most importantly that there will only ever be a uni party.

Of course he’s considering it, just like everything he does he’s considering it. As long as Hillary! is certain Trump will peel off enough votes to assure her victory she doesn’t care what party Trump runs in.
