If you can’t get the votes for repeal, you can’t get the votes for an amendment. Amendments are also supposed to be run through the states.
How has it won. Thus far it has been intentionally rolled out as to benefit mainly those who receive a subsidy to cover the true cost of the policy. To this point less than 12 million Americans have been enrolled in either a state or federal marketplace. Coming next are the mandates for mid-sized and large employers, that’s the other 290+ million Americans who will be paying higher premiums for less access, not to mention higher deductibles. Then the bulk of Americans will begin to understand firsthand the bait and switch the demokrats have perpetrated with their “Affordable Care Act”.
The sad truth is that the much of the medical complex has figured out how to survive ObamaCare and prosper under its regulations. Follow the money, always follow the money. The law raises costs while lowering quality and quantity of care. Payments for those costs go into someone's pockets which equates to profits, freedom and the Constitution being damned. I fear the only argument left is which political party can make the trains (Obamacare) run on time.

Show me anyone in Washington with any actual power who is actively trying to get it repealed.
This was a small business destruction bill that was pushed by the Chamber of Commerce and large corporations to put an end to start up businesses and eliminate competition.

I heard two or three candidates during the debate say the words, “repealing the Affordable Care act” in the sense of something that could or should be done, so they disagree with your thesis.

Not to defend the ACA but I think the guaranteed-issue feature actually can help start-ups. It makes it possible for people to leave their jobs and start their own businesses without having to worry about losing their employer-provided insurance.
I know from personal experience that once COBRA ran out it was almost impossible to get coverage due to a pre-existing condition. If I had been on the fence about branching out on my own the loss of employer insurance would have kept me at my job.
Yeah, but wait until you try to expand your business and have to provide Obamacare to all your employees, along with Disability, Unemployment, liability and workers' compensation insurance along with all the permits. You don't have enough money to grease everyone's palms to make get through all the red tape.
Obamacare is one more layer of thick red tape designed to keep your small business from competing with the big guys.

How many people with manageable chronic conditions are going quit their 40 hour a week job with benefits to start their own business or join such a business? If your 50 or so, your looking at ~$6K for premiums and ~$6K for deductibles per spouse. If you have a serious chronic condition the stress would probably kill you..
The point is that the decision shouldn't ride on the fact that you have a chronic condition. In a healthy market people will make the choice to start a business based on their passion, ability, initiative and appetite for risk. A pre-existing medical condition shouldn't enter into it.

Trust me, there are plenty of corporate jobs with killer stress. In fact, that's often a motivator for someone to bail out and try it on their own. At least then they are in control of their own work environment.

I don't think so either. Everything flows from guaranteed-issue.
Once medical underwriting went away the game was effectively over. It's almost inconceivable that any future Republican plan would reinstate pre-existing condition exclusions, and once you accept that you don't have many choices on how to pay for it.
You hear talk of high-risk pools as an answer but the reality is that they're very expensive and you just end up spreading the cost across the general tax base so what have you gained?
And thus far only a small minority of people have been forced onto to it, less than 12 million out of a population of 300+ million. Wait until the rest of the nation finds out

America has not lost yet. If Obamacare survives the first six months under President Cruz, I will admit defeat. Until then, I will both work for and pray for a restoration of freedom.
