Toxic algae blooming in warm water from California to Alaska [Revelation 8]

SEATTLE (AP) — A vast bloom of toxic algae off the West Coast is denser, more widespread and deeper than scientists feared even weeks ago, according to surveyors aboard a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research vessel. This coastal ribbon of microscopic algae, up to 40 miles wide and 650 feet deep in places, is flourishing amid unusually warm Pacific Ocean temperatures. It now stretches from at least California to Alaska and has shut down lucrative fisheries. Shellfish managers on Tuesday doubled the area off Washington's coast that is closed to Dungeness crab fishing, after finding elevated levels of marine toxins in tested crab meat.

So-called "red tides" are cyclical and have happened many times before, but ocean researchers say this one is much larger and persisting much longer, with higher levels of neurotoxins bringing severe consequences for the Pacific seafood industry, coastal tourism and marine ecosystems. Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, said the area now closed to crab fishing includes more than half the state's 157-mile-long coast, and likely will bring a premature end to this year's coastal crab season.

"We think it's just sitting and lingering out there," said Anthony Odell, a University of Washington research analyst who is part of a NOAA-led team surveying the harmful algae bloom, which was first detected in May. "It's farther offshore, but it's still there." The survey data should provide a clearer picture of what is causing the bloom which is brownish in color, unlike the blue and green algae found in polluted freshwater lakes. Marine detectives already have a suspect: a large patch of water running as much as 3 degrees centigrade warmer than normal in the northeast Pacific Ocean, nicknamed "the blob..."

"Crimson or red tides" are typically normal and cyclical. However scientists are seeing that current "red tides" are becoming denser, more widespread, and toxic. The leftists progressives will blame this phenomenon on "anthropogenic climate change". God says in Isaiah 24 and Revelation that it is a judgment from God caused by man's sin. The Bible shows that God will judge planet earth because of the sins of abortion, homosexuality, and pederasty (homosexual adoption). He says that the seas and rivers and waters will turn to blood.

Isn't this appropriate? Men have shown that they desire the blood of babies and the unborn. Islam desires the blood of infidels and Jews. Leftists demand the blood of those who would dare harvest a lion. Hopefully some will wake up and believe on Jesus Christ before it is too late...

Revelation 8:8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. 10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; 11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became * wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

Instead of “looking up,” they blame climate change.

Notice how the phrase and variations, “this is common but getting worse” is getting used more now. Can we use it?

Loony liberalism is common but it seems to be getting worse now. Experts say it is “becoming denser, more widespread, and toxic”.

I agree with your comment on liberalism. Definitely a psychological illness that is spreading rapidly!

However the oceans problems that are coming are a judgment from God.

Sure. I am not sure how the Lord plans to implement this, could be an underwater volcano. However we should take note of God’s judgments on the earth.

Are you a member of the Scottish pop band formed in Glasgow during 1985?

God's Word is true. He who brought the Jews back to Israel will fulfill all of His Words, including his judgments.

That word "scientist" is being slung around with increasing frequency. What exactly is a scientist?

There are federal job positions listed specifically as scientist.

However, I think in the general msm context it is anybody that agrees with the huffington post or mother jones's political position on the environment.

I am sure all those Rebel flags in Alabama have caused this deadly Crimson Tide.

I agree with your point. However God says that the seas will turn to blood, not because of ACC, but because of His judgments.

The algae is phosphorescent and lights up with a bluish light visible at night when the water is subjected to “unexpected” motion. Thus phosphorescent surf. This is not a real common occurrence, but is impressive. I understand that the actions of swimming also causes phosphorescence. Apparently makes your arms light up.I was too old to try this a few years ago near San Diego, but a younger friend came running across the beach, announcing, “I’m going in!”

One of God’s under appreciated wonders.

That just makes it easier for sharks to feed at night.

The phenomenon is indeed, fairly rare, and very beautiful at night. The light is more accurately called "bio-luminescence", and it is quite a sight. I remember nights, especially when there was no moon when the "red tide" was in bloom, we would stroll on the sand, and watch the waves explode as they rolled in. Just kicking the sand was like creating yellow-greenish explosions. It is one of my fondest romantic memories of Ventura California, sailing home from a trip to the islands, and making a path through the red tide. The water glowed brilliantly as we passed through, our wake glowing and exploding with the light.

Thanks for that memory...
