Rick Santorum lost - in part - because he endorsed Arlen Specter, Democrat. It was sad.

$600,000. Wow. I kind of feel sorry for the donors, especially the small ones. They mean well but they have to know it’s money tossed out the window.

"And so it begins."

In addition to the normal thinning of the herd that has to happen early in a POTUS race, there's another new pressure.

The GOP knows they must unite money and momentum behind 1 or two candidates to have even the slimmest chance to break the Trump Insurgency.

There wont be even 10 candidates for the GOP come Thanksgiving...this year.

" just to keep him in the race"

Maybe not this time.

The donors need to get behind 1 or 2 candidates to have a chance against Trump.

It takes an enormous ego, a lot of gall and a large amount of self-delusion to accept hard-earned money from donors when you don't have a prayer.

A the moment Santorum has no political job.....I think he's looking for a deal with the eventual candidate...i.e., a well-paying, medium profile, political appointment job in exchange for his support in the general election.

This is common practice....and he's probably not the only one in the 2nd tier of candidates to be hanging around hoping for a future deal.

In fact, in most primary elections, candidates with no chance at all file in the hopes of a sinecure in a new administration.

He was barely registering in the race last time around, but he won Iowa through his grass-roots campaign. He did the best of anyone else in the “second tier” debate last week.

He’s not an establishment candidate so he wouldn’t get any money from the GOP-e. He was the alternative to Romney who kept the battle going longer than anyone else.
