BALTIMORE (AP) Fresh off its deadliest month in 43 years, Baltimore saw 11 people shot and two of them killed in the first two days of August.
The latest incident occurred early Sunday in northwest Baltimore, acting Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said at a news conference held to announce the creation of a multiagency task for to deal with the upswing in homicides plaguing the city.

But black lives matter, right?
That’s a slow Tuesday afternoon in Chicago. Come on B-town, you can do better than that!
Only 2 kills out of 11? They need more time at the range.
But black lives matter, right?
++++
I heard that Baltimore was issued an exemption by Al Sharpton. Could be just a rumor.;)
Yes, it's called the Chicago Exemption. It relies on blacks killing other blacks, and is guaranteed on most any weekend.
Chicago leads—3 kills, 12 shot.
Detroit? The ‘Second City’ title is up for grabs!
Black lives do indeed matter. this is a very low weekend death count. So low i think they are using protection like condoms on their guns
Damn near matched Chicago but Chi Town still has the lead.
The Syrians and the Kurdish see these articles translated online. They may conclude that America, or at least certain parts of America are far more dangerous than their Middle Eastern neighborhoods.
Multiagency task forces matter!
Geeze...doesn’t seem like that battle over Fort Sumter ever ended. ...
Wednesday, I had to go down to Charm City to rescue an elderly Argentine Boa.
Longest hour of my life was spent in those city limits.
It did. The libs just brought it back because they were running out of things to get people upset about.
A couple of years ago, I worked in DC, and would have weekends free. Naturally, I went through the normal list of things (Gettysburg, Mount Vernon, Richmond, etc). One day in the office, I remarked that I hadn’t been to Baltimore and was thinking of going over. One of the guys knew Baltimore fairly well. He printed out a map of the downtown region, and then drew a 5,000 ft by 5,000 ft square and then said that was the ‘safe zone’...don’t venture outside of the zone. I kinda laughed and a second guy in the office voiced the same idea for Baltimore. It’s just not a place to go unless you want to see an O’s game or stay at a hotel at the inner harbor area.
The blunt truth is....if we took the top 100 metropolitan areas of the US, and applied the ‘safe zone’ concept...we might all be shocked at just how dangerous that the nation has become. I grew in Alabama in the 1970s and considered Birmingham at that point in time to be fairly safe. Today? Other than the airport and maybe two small zones....the bulk of Birmingham is unsafe. Same for Memphis. Same for Atlanta. For that matter, I can’t think of any city over 250,000 in population that is entirely safe to venture into.
I have family all over the state; Essex, Bel Air, Glen Burnie, Easton, Libertytown, Leonardtown and Fredrick. Every time I visit I cringe at the thought of having to drive through Charm City. Sad, too. Because I really like Maryland.
So, how do they get away with saying that crime is at historic lows???
I remember going to the open air market in Bawlmer, visiting my great-uncle and going to see my dying step-granddad with no fear and no issues at all, back in the 70s.
We’d go there for “fun”.
Saw the wonderful Aquarium in the mid-90s, still no problem.
It’s all gone to Hell, since then.
It grieves me that I will never be able to go photograph that awesome cemetery that now borders an urban, deadly jungle.
I didn’t even dare to swing by Druid Hill in broad daylight to finally see “Black Agnes” for myself.
*sigh*
The elderly, sick Boa has a safe, proper home, now.
I reckon it was worth it.
Washington, DC is having the most killings since 8 or more years ago. For several years they were cheering that killings were under 100 for the year. This year 83 already.
Where is Baltimore, 200?
First, they defined crime into different categories. So, ‘violent crime’ is one of the lessening areas. This relates you still getting robbed but the guy was smart enough to do it while you were out of the house.
Second, prosecution teams got smart...they want a conviction...even if it means that you don’t charge a guy with manslaughter-second-degree and invent manslaughter-third-degree, then talk the guy’s lawyer into a plea deal. More guys go to prison, but now it’s a two to five year deal instead of the old fifteen year deal.
Third, if you look at some communities (Birmingham would be a good example)...’white-flight’ took place and the punks are left with strictly 7-11 or gas stations to rob because no one with real money lives in the highly urbanized areas any more.
Fourth, changing drug habits occurred...cheaper drugs means you don’t need to rob six people to meet your weekly cost situation....two people are enough now.
Fifth and final....people started to spend more money on alarms and weapons. Go to any urban area with a $250,000 home. The guy will have spent a minimum of $1,500 on alarm gadgets and have a system set to call the cops out to his place. The cops will react, and it’ll be the cops versus the punks in this situation...not the owner versus the punks. Go back a decade ago....probably one house out of a hundred had video collection or alarms. Today? I’d bet it’s closer to 15 out of a hundred, and growing. You can pick up the cameras yourself and do the job for less than $200.
