Sanctuary Cities for Conservatives? With the way things are going, it's going to be needed.
American Thinker ^ | 08/01/2015 | Gary Bauer

“Sanctuary cities” have been in the headlines for weeks.

Late last week, the House of Representatives voted to strip federal funds from sanctuary cities, which refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts. And in early July, an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times and convicted of seven felonies shot and killed a young woman while she was walking with her father and a friend along a pier in San Francisco, a city famous for its sanctuary policies.

Sanctuary cities have existed for decades – the first one was established in Los Angeles in 1979 – as places of asylum for refugees and others in the country illegally. By one count, there are more than 200 sanctuary cities in 32 states and the District of Columbia.

The recent San Francisco murder has prompted renewed scrutiny of sanctuary cities. But while most of the debate has focused on the legal and political ramifications, I’d like to offer the following thought experiment: what if there were sanctuary cities for religious conservatives?

Imagine if some city in red-state America – perhaps Little Rock, Arkansas; Dallas, Texas; or Bowling Green, Kentucky – decided to be a refuge for unborn children and refused to grant business licenses to abortion clinics.

What if a city decided that it was going to be a sanctuary city for the Ten Commandments and displayed them in schools, libraries, and the county courthouse?

What if a city decided that it was important for children to have mothers and fathers, declared itself a sanctuary city for traditional marriage, and refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples?

I’m kidding, but only slightly. A glance at the news headlines underscores the growing need for a place of refuge for conservatives.

Can we construct a private members-only walled-city?

I would like to hope that the author was just pulling names out of the air when he picked Dallas. Next to Austin, San Antonio and Houston it is one of the most liberal cities in Texas. Before anyone suggests a good location for a city for conservatives we do need to agree on the criteria.

No, give liberals one small state and keep them out of the rest of America.

If Hillary, Sanders or Slo Joe win next year, no city will be safe for conservatives. Best to go to another country that is willing to leave us alone.

Nah, pack more of them into NYC, they like living like ants or rats in a burrow anyway, what they want for everyone with Agenda 21. Easier to keep them trapped in there and there is nothing of value being lost.

Personally I think when the SHTF they will either accept what it forces on them or they can die fighting.

But before that, we should simply split the country and fence them off. No one said it has to be an equal distribution. And we have the ammo if they want to start a war.

I don’t think we should confine ourselves to just one state. I see this country splitting into regions if anything. I had a friend, now departed, who predicted such an event years ago.

I enjoy living where I do. Near the burbs but not really part of them. But it is in Massachusetts, which does not insulate me from liberal policies and laws. I daydream of retiring someday and moving to a small town somewhere with good Christian people, low taxes and laws that don’t make me afraid of owning a gun because the laws protect the burglar.

"Can we construct a private members-only walled-city?"

If conservatives are serious about living with liberty there are numerous places where this could be done. Not necessarily building a walled city, but moving in enough people to control the political agenda.

We live in a rural Pacific Northwest county where liberals have done exactly that over the last decade. They now control every office in county government, make their own rules, increase taxes regularly and continue to recruit political allies and gays through networks across the land. This beautiful ocean side environment is now very ugly (for us) socially and we are in the process of selling and moving away.

A process like this could be accomplished by conservatives, with liberty and constitutionality taking precedent, but conservatives don't think like liberals. We are not cohesive, active or engaged. we just continue to let liberty slip away and gripe about it, but do very little actually.

On a personal note, my wife and I have done extensive research into places to live with rural space and some privacy with medical services and retail convenience within reasonable distance. We've researched climate, political trends, taxes and much more. After years of watching local papers we had decided on the Idaho panhandle and actually found the (we thought) perfect location near Sandpoint earlier this summer. Then we heard about the federal government program to move thousands of Muslim refugees into Idaho and provide all the benefits Americans work for, so they can establish what seems to be their own Sharia enclave.

Needless to say, we pulled our offer on the property we wanted and our search continues. We've been watching the local papers in Idaho and don't see much resistance to the government sponsored Muslim relocation program.
