Trump: Crimea is Europe's problem
CNN ^ | July 31, 2015 | Tom LoBianco

Posted on 08/01/2015 5:10:41 PM PDT by conservative98

"Let me explain first of all — this is Europe's problem much more than ours, OK?" Trump told CNN during a trip to Scotland.

"And Europe isn't complaining as much as we are. But this is more of a Europe problem," Trump continued. "And when Europe comes to us and says, 'We want your help, we want your help,' but they're not really doing that. They're dealing with Russia, they're taking in the gas, they're taking in the oil — they're not really doing that. And you know, we're making a big deal out of it."

"But why isn't Germany leading this one?" Trump asked. "You know Germany is a very rich, very powerful nation. Why aren't they dealing on it moreso? Everything the United States — we're like the policeman of the world."

Yes.

Yes.

You base everything on the false premise that someone, somewhere said anything about marching to Moscow. No one is even talking about sending U.S. troops. The idea is to support smaller friendly countries from larger hostile countries that are using naked military aggression against them. Its in our interest to do so.

The Russians aren’t going to launch an ICBM at us, because the Ukrainians are well armed.

Well if the Ukrainians are well armed, why do we need to be there in the first place?

And what exactly does it mean to be in our best interest? Are you saying we are in fact Team America World Police?

Actually can ANYONE explain what our ‘best interests’ are in being there at all? Anyone? 86 posts in and no one can answer why we are there other than some nebulous feelings based crap.

Trade? No. Security of our borders? No. So what is it?

Has CNN asked Barry Soetoro, Heinz Kerry, or Cankles the Crimea question?

If not, why not?
If yes, what was the answer?

I can't see anyone wanting their children in the military to be deployed under any circumstances under obama.

OTOH, under obama it may be safer to be deployed than disarmed on a military base.

Trumps’ advice goes against that of Zbigniew Brzezinski and other influential American foreign policy advisors of the last 30 years.

I guess one must ask how it turned out with him advising LBJ and Carter about foreign affairs. I like much of what he has said though.

We have allies? Someone better tell Obama—but don’t tell the Kurds.

You think that a new imperial Russia built on the bones of the USSR, with a cultural bent to strong arming it’s neighbors and working in tandem with despots to attack American interests would be a positive outcome for American interests?

I don’t.

They aren't well armed. That was the point. Helping them to be well armed is the point.

Talking about us fighting the Russians directly is a strawman, arguing a point that no one has suggested, because it's easier to address than the actual argument on the table.

We’ll be fighting the Russians if we’re arming soldiers against them. That’s one step short of direct war between US and Russia. really smart, just what we need!

One thing I’ve been pointing out is the hypocrisy of all you folks who are so concerned about Russia’s involvement in Ukraine - and want the US to spend a lot of money, and risk war, in response; but you don’t favor similar policies toward China, which just as repressive against Tibet. Hypocrisy and double standards, anyone?

What it really shows is that we don’t need to take your advice re Ukraine, because you don’t follow your own logic when it comes to Tibet. You admit that we don’t need to get involved there - so Donald is right,, we also don’t need to get involved in Ukraine.

You think that a new imperial Russia

Why don’t you start by focusing your attention on Chinese imperialism, - their conquest of Tibet (i.e., their own Ukraine) , and their continued threats against Taiwan and others in the area.

Oh? You say that’s not something for US to fight over, or for us to arm the locals over?

Well, the same logic applies to Ukraine.

If you’re worried about imperialism - start with China before we get involved against Russia. Otherwise, you’re showing that you don’t care about oppression and imperialism, you only care about getting US in a war or semi-war with Russia

Tibet might be a similar issue morally, but when it comes to strategic location to us, number of people affected, and what we could hope to achieve, it’s not even remotely comparable.

Having any more strawman kites that you’d like to fly?

You might wish to start considering reality rather than fantasy. If you start arming a country at effective war with another, you will find that a war of your own is not a strawman.

Look, I get that you want to win the argument, but pulling sheer fantasy out of unicorn entrails isn’t going to do it for you.

Nope, I’ve exposed your double standard for the rest of the readers to see, so there’s no more need to have a dialogue on this issue. Thanks for admitting that your concern about “oppression” doesn’t apply to China, only to Russia, so it’s really just cover for your desire to get us into a costly confrontation with Russia. People can make of that what they will. A lot of readers will agree with Trump that Ukraine is not something for us to got the mat over — just like you don’t favor us going to the mat over Tibet.

My kid got out after 8. Many of her fellows thought she lost her mind. Within a couple months the same people were calling her for advice on life in civi-land because they too had enough as the crap got deeper.

Well, if true, and he’s on the up and up (I don’t trust anyone) they won’t let him ever hold the reigns of power.

Double standard? Dream on.

One is doable with low risk, high gain. The other isn’t doable with high risk, low gain.

And believe me, I’m quite happy with how most Freeport will view the series of posts.
