Companies owned by Donald Trump have reportedly tried to import at least 1,100 foreign workers since 2000.

A Reuters review [link at URL] of Labor Department data found that Trump Enterprises have requested temporary work visas for over a thousand foreign workers. ...

The desired workers include waitresses, cooks, vineyard workers, as well as positions as assistant golf-course superintendent, assistant hotel manager and banquet manager. ...

Reuters found that most of the visa requests were granted, as Trump has vowed to create and protect jobs for American workers. ...

The Labor Department data did not specify the nationality of the immigrants sought by Trump companies, but the visas requested are overwhelmingly used to bring in Mexican workers. ...

"I will bring back our jobs from China, Mexico and other places." ...

Many people on this thread have absolutely bizarre ideas about American “welfare” programs.

Now, I acknowledge that parents with minor children may be able to scam the system. In other words, one, and perhaps both parents, can benefit from food, medical, rent, and cash benefits that are based primarily on their children.

However, if you are a childless, able bodied adult male, your welfare eligibility is quite limited: Food Stamps (around $190 max). Subsidized housing (after spending years on a “wait list”). Medicaid (before ObamaCare, you sat in the ER and hoped for the best). That's about it. That's why almost the entire homeless population is male.

If you are a childless, able bodied adult female, the road is a little easier. Since women can be uniquely vulnerable to violent assaults, emergency shelter for women is almost universally available in the USA. Otherwise, it's the same welfare story - Food Stamps and (a long wait for) subsidized housing.

First, as a Cruz guy I’ll say he’s dead wrong on the issue. That said...

There is zero need to import a single foreign worker in a free market economy with double digit unemployment...by anyone. This issue comes down to wanting ones cake and eating it too / entitlement.

If hotels or ANY OTHER INDUSTRY cannot exist by paying American workers what the actual non foreign twisted market determines, then they go out of business. Eventually people needing the services of hotels will cause a profitable hotel industry to develop. That’s economics 101 folks. The market will never work...ever...as long as every businessman, politician and their dog decides to intentionally thwart it.

Sure people want things cheap. I want a DeLorean with a Mr. Fusion and a trip back to sane America. LOLcats want Cheezburgers. Want and reality are different things.

“The Hill” is little more than another version of “The ONION”. Much of what they print is propaganda at best and more typically fabrication.

2000 - 2015 mid-year

Trump companies "TRIED" to bring in 71 H1-B visas holders per year.  No word on how may they actually succeeded in bringing in.

That's 5.9 per month.

Meanwhile, we have 2 million or more illegal immigrants pouring across the border each year, and other respect "Conservative" men advocating for upwards of 300 thousand new H1-B visa holders.

Be real sure to vote for the "REAL" Conservative folks.  LMAO

[So an assistant hotel manager and banquet manager are often filled by skilled and unskilled Latinos because no Americans citizens can be found to fill those positions, if indeed foreign workers were sought out for those positions?]

Maybe I wasn't clear. I said in enterprises whose laborers are mostly Latino it makes sense to recruit bilingual Latino nationals as supervisors or assistant managers. American citizens can fill these positions but might encounter difficulty. Bilingual or naturalized U.S. citizens will do. But from an industrial perspective it might not be ideal. If you are recruiting from Latin America you can find experienced managers in the same country or region from which you are drawing laborers. These managers will be enticed by the favorable pay differential and temporary benefits that attract the workers.

Illegal immigration, especially under Obama, is a nightmare from Hell. But there are many jobs in the U.S. economy which would go unfilled but for illegals. Had the Clinton, Bush or Obama Adminstrations simply followed existing law and improved on it the borders would be more secure and the demand for labor could be satisfied through an orderly work visa program.

“If you are recruiting from Latin America”

There’s the first problem.

The Trump companies have sought at least 850 H-2B visa workers.

The H-2B program, which receives little government oversight, is used by companies in sectors ranging from hospitality to forestry to hire foreign workers for temporary jobs. Companies must prove that the jobs are seasonal - and that they tried and failed to hire Americans.

This is from the article. H-2B are seasonal, non-farm employees. SEASONAL.

Notice, that only leaves 250 other workers for the 15 year period. That is 1.4 per month.

You're welcome.

There are a whole host of businesses that vie for those visas every year - from the ice cream stands on the shore boardwalks to crab pickers, etc.

Yes, Reuters tried to do a hit piece with the headline, but at least were honest in the article.

“NEWSFLASH: Jeb Bush, who is MARRIED to a Mexican Immigrant, was recently seen carrying take-out food from a CHINESE RESTAURANT.”

That’s it...I’m not voting for Bush - he is a TOTAL HYPOCRITE.

“pay more to attract American citizens to these jobs”

How is that fair market capitalism? Adjusting wages ARTIFICIALLY higher than the market level is a path to losses and loss of customers and eventual bankruptcy.

The eastern European workers are happy to accept the wage levels and the corporation can compete successfully in the marketplace and survive.

Why should American citizens work for these low wage jobs when they get all these benefits FREE from the government?

That’s very small % of Trump’s workforce.

I don’t believe Trump is out there making every HR decision.

The State of Texas probably hired more illegals than Trump did.

How many H1Bs, foreign workers has the State of Texas directly tried to hire for jobs working for the State of Texas. Has Perry or Gov Abbot reduced any of it?

Not to mention all of these wonderful businesses in Texas hiring illegals and hiring foreign workers.

How many foreign workers have the Koch Brothers or Sheldon Adelson hired?
