Washington (AFP) - Urging Americans to curb trophy killings and not be "cowardly lions," US lawmakers introduced legislation Friday that would prevent the kinds of controversial hunting that brought down Zimbabwe's beloved beast Cecil.
Senate Democrat Robert Menendez's bill would expand the import-export restrictions of the 1973 Endangered Species Act to include animals that are not just listed as endangered or threatened, but those that are "proposed to be listed" as such.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service, which maintains the US endangered species list, last October proposed to list the African lion as threatened due to habitat loss and increased human-lion conflicts.

“expand the import-export restrictions of the 1973 Endangered Species Act to include animals that are not just listed as endangered or threatened, but those that are “proposed to be listed”
So pretty much ALL animals can be put off limits to hunting. All an animal rights group has to do is propose any and all animals to be listed.
Because lion lives matter?
Sadly, I am given to wonder if it's going to come to this.
Killing babies for profit = GOOD
What’s with these a-holes in Congress that prioritize Lions over human babies? Where’s the “Baby Act” to prohibit abortion.
Would this cover Memendez’ “trophy hunting” in the Caribbean?
He’ll have to get the approval from the Rockerfeller Ranch down near Alice Texas, where they’ve held private endangered species safari/hunts since the 80s.
Well, all of them except the human animals.
>>Wheres the Baby Act to prohibit abortion.
If the final video in the series shows what people think it shows (the delivery and murder of a live baby, followed by its dissection), then we should quickly name that baby and get that name out there with the video.
Then, we can see if the Republican majority is worth anything. We already know that the Dems are worshiping at the feet of the old pagan gods.
Menendez would have trouble getting co sponsors while he is in prison for corruption and bribery. Any legislation on killing babies for profit?
So the proposal to list will protect animals the same as being listed. Isn’t that giving the power to stop hunting with just a word? You may say “of course it does” and believe that this is a righteous and just regulation. What is to stop a smart pro-life lawyer from proposing to list the “human animal” as endangered, thus giving protection instantly from abortions?
So be it. It would take more bandwidth than is available anywhere to explain to a brain dead public and progressive government that funding from the big game hunters in the form of fees, guide salaries and bureaucratic red tape are the main source of funding for the game preserves that protect these lions from extinction. I might add that it also, most likely, protects a lot of Africans from starvation by providing them with a job.
I feel the same way about this scenario as I do about the law enforcement agencies in the inner cities. Give the rabble exactly what they want and deserve. Then listen to them cry and whine about the consequences.
The same thing is going to happen here in the United States because of progressive dimwits that don’t realize that “Bambi” was almost decimated until hunters started a program to increase and manage their numbers. This same passle of pantywaist dimwit Progressives that mourn over a lion that wandered off a hunter financed preserve will spend millions to save the life of a minnow while thousands of human beings lose everything they have with which to feed themselves and their families. A society whose members are this stupid can’t and won’t survive much longer. They deserve to get exactly what they demand and they fully deserve the consequences.

Nice leopard!
A few years back there was a Michigan man in trouble for getting caught returning from Canada with a legally hunted polar bear (mounted).
The hunt and mounting were done 100% legally in Canada but bringing it into the USA was illegal.
