An icebreaking vessel key to Royal Dutch Shells plans to drill for oil in the Arctic departed Portland, Oregon, late on Thursday, navigating between a narrow gap of environmental activists dangling from a bridge after a two-day human blockade.

Funny thing is their protesting and oil company and their out there in plastic canoe’s
Good looking ship.
Fools is correct. The idiots traveled to the bridge in petroleum powered vehicles yet are opposed to the exploration for new sources of oil.
“Shell spokesman Curtis Smith said the company respects the rights of individuals to protest but added the staging of protesters in Portland was not safe nor was it lawful.”
Then why the heck were not more arrests made?
bump
I thought blocking maritime traffic was a federal offense? Where’s the Coast Guard? All those knuckleheads in kayaks need to be busted. Isn’t dangling from a bridge illegal?
RAMMING SPEED!!!
Break out the fire hoses!!!!
Can citizens bring RICO charges? Because a lot of politicians ignored the law, and thus broke it committing piracy, by allowing the obstruction of a navigable waterway.
All ahead flank, make turns for thirty knots...
Cut the ropes. Lets see if they can swim.
If you ever get the chance to visit Portland you will understand.
From the youtube video, there appeared to be a very heavy police and/or Coast Guard presence on the water, escorting the tug through the loonies. I guess the police pulled up only enough protestors to create a gap for the ship.
As for why more people were not arrested, you have to understand that Portland, county and state politicians are not simply sympathetic to the loonies, they are loonies themselves.
I am up in Oregon visiting my mom and was watching the breaking news for close to an hour and kept thinking the same thing... Why are they not simply using fire hoses to control them?
Funny it was like the typical car chase you see everywhere else, but in Oregon we watch them cave to protesters illegally protesting... This ship cancelled leaving port the first day and then made it almost down to the bridge the second day before turning around (in a narrow channeled river) and going back to port. Then the feds closed the river and ODOT closed this bridge before it left in the afternoon, meaning anybody in the water was committing a federal crime and news tonight said two people were arrested.
