Trump Goes Mushy, Incoherent on Immigration (gee, who coulda seen this?)
Breitbart ^ | 7-30-15 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 07/30/2015 6:02:43 PM PDT by C. Edmund Wright

Has Donald Trump made his first serious boo-boo of the campaign?

For weeks, the media have trumpeted the supposed death of the Trump campaign. First, they claimed, Trump’s campaign imploded on launch thanks to his comments about illegal immigration. Then they claimed that Trump was finished because of his slap at Senator Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)43% ’s (R-AZ) war service. But neither of those comments alienated Trump’s base – he’s maintained his seven point lead over Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in the 2016 presidential polls, with no other candidate breaking double-digits in the polls. In fact, his original comments about illegal immigration launched his candidacy to prominence, with many Americans relieved that a major candidate had finally touched the media third rail and talked openly about illegal immigrant criminality.

Now, however, Trump may have damaged himself with the very people excited by his candidacy. Asked point blank about his immigration policy, Trump dropped the brashness and the blurting, and suddenly went completely Hillary-vague on CNN. After blathering about deporting criminal illegal immigrants – even President Obama pays lip service to this idea – Trump continued:

Perhaps. But, if it’s a family of 4, that’s $40K. That’s a nice nest egg. And, the taxpayer likely saves in the long run.

Cruz Tries to Claim the Middle Ground on Immigration

What Mr. Cruz has tried to articulate in both word and deed is a middle ground. It got no support from Democrats in Washington, but it goes further than many on the far right want to go by offering leniency to undocumented immigrants here already: A path to legal status, but not to citizenship. A green card with no right to naturalization.

Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.

Besides barring citizenship while instituting some level of legalization for those here already, Mr. Cruz has proposed increasing the number of green cards awarded annually, to 1.35 million from 675,000. He also wants to eliminate the per-country limit that he said left applicants from countries like Mexico, China and India hamstrung when they tried to gain legal entry to this country.

Instead of paying the criminals to leave I’ve got a better Idea.

When they are caught send them home with nothing but the clothes on their backs, whatever they own becomes the property of the govt to cover the cost of catching them and sending them home.

I saw the interview on CNN. He said we have to get the illegals out and expedite those people WHO ARE QUALIFIED back in LEGALLY. I am watching Fox (Megyn Kelly) and they are looking dense and stupid like they don’t get it. DUH? He was asked how he can find the bad illegals and he said we have to find them and politicians don’t have a clue how to do that. Fox News wants Jebby so bad they are doing the dishonest hit jobs now on Trump like they did on Newt Gingrich in 2012. I am not shocked to see the dishonesty after 2012.

If we can’t keep them out, then what would be the point?

And how do you that without the “Afro-American” community going nuts, they never got their “reparations” you knows.

I did several years ago on FR. But you got to close the border first or they’ll take the money and be back in a week. It would be cheaper than having to work the court system. Plus the cash would cushion the receiving country of their return.

Back it up with severe penalties for not taking the cash and leaving. And even more severe penalties for taking the cash and returning illegally. And collect biometric data before they get their cash. So if they come back, you can nail them.

(1) Deport everyone; (2) Reimport nearly everyone; (3) Expedite the system to accomplish (2); (4) Allow everyone who came back in via (2) to gain legal status; (5) Perhaps give them citizenship; (6) Perhaps not give them citizenship; (7) Do “something” with DREAMers.

Geez.

You don’t like Trump, I get it. Tell me who to vote for.

Small minds (like yours) focus on personalities...greater minds focus on ideas. The idea here is that Trump is NOT what he so many of you think.

I'll vote for Trump if he wins the nomination, happily so, relatively - but that doesn't change the FACT, he is no conservative, he is philosophically incoherent, and has been for decades. My problem is NOT with Trump. Trump is who he is. My problem is the fan boy nation who will not face the truth.

LOL— Good point. But, it’s a great argument for securing the border. Secure the border, so we can pay them to leave.

Trump is the only one who actually sought to speak about illegal immigration. The others try to avoid it or they speak of not being *heartless*, or coming into our nation illegally as being *an act of love* or we need to have *comprehensive immigration reform* or we have to be *welcoming to Latinos* or *we are a nation of immigrants* or we mustn’t be *anti-immigrant* or *nativist* or *bigots* or illegals are *undocumented* or they are only trying to *feed their families* or they are *only doing the jobs that Americans don’t want to do* or they *are good for the economy* etc. etc. etc.

How about sending some serious legislation to Obama. Let him veto it and the Dems run on that veto. When will the Repubs show us that they are serious about immigration control? Oh that’s right, Boehner McConnell and all of the rest.

Because congress was doing so well on the illegal immigration issue before Trump came along and screwed everything up.

“He is as shallow as any other celebutard and his views apparently change with the wind and the latest headlines.”

Are you a billionaire? Trump is and he didn’t get there
by being shallow. I’m not much of a Trump fan but calling
a self made billionaire shallow and otherwise whimsical
is a stretch.

What is wrong with attrition thru enforcement? We don’t need mass deportation or a blanket amnesty or paying them to leave. We just make life miserable for them including shutting down the job magnet.
