Zimbabwe Reveals Shocking Truth About “Cecil the Lion”...

...Animal Rights Groups Are Desperate to Cover Up

Both social media and the progressive mainstream media have been in an uproar over the past few days about the death of “Cecil,” a 13-year-old lion in Zimbabwe.

Cecil was killed in an organized licensed hunt by a big game hunter, Minnesota dentist Dr. Walter Palmer, who has now gone into hiding after receiving numerous death threats from outraged animal rights activists.

However, it would appear that the outrage surrounding the death of Cecil is what is commonly known as a “First World Problem,” as residents of Zimbabwe were mostly unaware of, and really don’t care about, the death of just another lion.

“What lion?” was the response of acting Information Minister Prisca Mupfumira, after being asked about the death of Cecil.

Though the government had yet to give an official response to the lion hunt, local authorities opened an investigation into whether the professional guides who led the hunt abided by the rules and regulations in place for such things.

According to Yahoo News, that hasn’t stopped angry animal rights and anti-hunting activists from ruining the life of Dr. Palmer, with some calling for his arrest, extradition and even death for hunting the lion with a bow and arrow and finishing it off with a gun.

But most people in Zimbabwe don’t care about the dead lion, as they have much greater problems to deal with, such as an 80 percent unemployment rate, insane monetary inflation and a hugely corrupt government.

“Are you saying that all this noise is about a dead lion? Lions are killed all the time in this country,” said Tryphina Kaseke, a used-clothes hawker on the streets of Harare. “What is so special about this one?”

The truth is, most locals in Zimbabwe actually look forward to the big game hunts that Westerners engage in, as the high price tag for the hunts means money pumped into the local economy, not to mention the meat from such hunts is required by law to be given to local tribes and villages.

“Why are the Americans more concerned than us?” said Joseph Mabuwa, a 33-year-old father of two. “We never hear them speak out when villagers are killed by lions and elephants in Hwange.”

Lions and other large animals are typically viewed as dangerous by the local population, and if these animals are not hunted, their populations will explode and bring about all sorts of other issues, like rampant disease and increased attacks on people.

If only as much outrage over a dead and dismembered lion were directed at those who kill and dismember hundreds of thousands of babies per year, our society might have a moral leg to stand on.

I have a few people filling my fb newsfeed with more and more crap about the lion. (To be honest, one or two stories might have been interesting/shocking/insightful, but c’mon already!)

I know that none of them had heard of this famous/popular/beloved lion before a week ago. None would’ve cared either.

Now they’re complaining about the dentist’s previous kill — which *again* they had no clue about EVER.

They have constantly reported that Cecil was a beloved famous lion in that nature preserve. But someone linked to the website of the preserve, and there was no mention of Cecil. So they probably embellished this whole story.

I'm pretty sure "Cecil" was invented a few days ago

The hunter, who has apologized for shooting it, probably wishes you were right.

Agreed. People are obviously finding this guy to be such an easy target because of his being a wealthy white American. While I am no sympathizer for Mr. Palmer, if the masses want to be angry over the killing of this lion and other African wildlife, I suggest ones like Mugabe and Zuma and other corrupt local government officials are even more so fair game concerning this issue.

If you can’t kill it cleanly (unless you really really need the food) don’t take the shot. 40 hours to die (and I’ll laugh at any moron who says he was humane or noble by finding it and finishing it, he paid 50 grand, of course he’s going to).

The last paragraph bears repeating: If only as much outrage over a dead and dismembered lion were directed at those who kill and dismember hundreds of thousands of babies per year, our society might have a moral leg to stand on.

The Nazis were that way. Hitler in particular, had a great fondness for animals. Human beings, not so much.

Lions and other large animals are typically viewed as dangerous by the local population, and if these animals are not hunted, their populations will explode.

This sentence is way too long. Here's a much more concise and accurate sentence:

Lions and other large animals are typically viewed as dangerous by the local population, and if these animals are not hunted, their populations will explode.
Just how dangerous are they? Lion attacks kill hundreds of Africans a year. And hippos and elephants kill more.

I’m not some animal rights activist by any means, but trophy hunting is disgusting, as are people’s justification of it. I’m all about thinning a herd if necessary and hunting something for food. I’ve hunted plenty in my life and I’ve always considered it an unpleasant task. I’m deeply cynical of anybody who goes out and hunts for no other reason than to throw an animal head up on their wall.

Where I’m from in Wyoming, at least the outfitters that took out rich people to bag trophy elk and moose would at least do something with the meat that the trophy hunter didn’t want instead of just leaving it in the field to rot. But shooting an animal just to shoot it, what the hell is that doing for you?

And no, I don’t think this dentist guy should be killed and have his business burned. But he should be prosecuted IF he broke the law (the reporting has been 99% emotion and extremely short on facts, so I don’t know).

The fact that a majority of people in Zimbabwe don’t know about this lion has nothing to do with whether the actions taken by this dentist and his guides were right or wrong.
