Besides, anyone can actually build one in an afternoon, with a modeler's table lathe, and a bagful of copper rivets.

You can legally build one if you pay the $200 Tax Stamp. If I am going to pay that, I am going to get a suppressor made by experts.

A guy I knew, who is long dead, used to snipe crows and other pests out his back door in his suburban complex. He had turned down the target barrel on a .22 LR High Standard, cross drilled it, added a sleeve and filled the space between barrel and sleeve with copper rivets, when Tandy still sold them. You could hear the snap when the pin hit the primer.

To the ATF. The guy is long dead, I have no idea where the gun went, and the guy who bought his collection is dead. There was also a boating accident, a house fire and a tornado.
