In the UK, a ‘yardbird’ has a different meaning than the US. They decided to change their name to the Yardbirds, both an expression for hobos hanging around rail yards waiting for a train and a reference to the jazz saxophonist Charlie “Yardbird” Parker...............
And The Who, in 1965 My Generation was unlike anything that came out before in terms of in-your-face attitude. It was literally the first "Punk Rock" song.
Thanks ! LOL
Isn’t that the masturbation lady ?????
Poor thing was certainly out of her league.
.
It is
Nobody seemed to know about the Yardbirds then and now, but I thought they were pretty cool. I was in a few bands at the time but it wasn’t always easy to play their stuff because they had a lot going on in their songs and they were pretty talented. Felt like cutting-edge at the time.
I have always been a huge Yardbirds fan and I don’t consider myself that old....yet.
Sadly, I won’t visit the RS article either.
“Yardbird” - old name for a prison inmate in the prison yard - AKA “jailbird.”
There’s always google cache
I liked Clapner when he played kettle drum in Derek and the Tumbling Dice.
`Bell Bottom Blues’: boom boom boom boom!
I loved the Yardbirds but I have to laugh at the insinuation that they were the singular driving force of R&R. How can anyone be objectively certain about an entirely subjective topic?
Many will argue that Page is miming Beck in this video.
I just recently found out that Duanne Allman (uncredited) plays with Clapton on the Layla cut.
When Clapton was showing George Harrison how to play "As My Guitar Gently Weeps", he fell in love with George's wife....the Layla song is about her (Patty Boyd). Clapton later marries Patty.
Patty's sister was married to Mic Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) but left Mic when she caught him with Stevie Nicks.
Small world.
"For Your Love" is an underrated classic with its bongos. Jeff Beck was easily the best guitarist they had in the group - "Over Under Sidways Down" GREAT guitar work!
Agreed, NOBODY sounded on drums like Keith did. Just listen to “I Can’t Explain” the drum in the chorus is just pure genius, nobody else could come up with that, they would have just played it straight, not Keith.
Keith drummed on “Beck’s Bolero” when he was contemplating leaving The Who.
Ox was also close to leaving as well, and there’s a greater-than-zero chance that we may have talked about Led Zeppelin consisting of Page-Plant-Moon and Entwistle.

Page-Beck-Relf-Stroll On--That scene "blew" me away when I saw the film in 66.
Yeah, that’s her................probably the best Clinton pick of all time..................
Keith Reif died too damn young and in so easily avoidable a way as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Relf#Personal_life_and_death
“I just recently found out that Duanne Allman (uncredited) plays with Clapton on the Layla cut.”
That I did not know.
