International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach says he wants the United States and its Olympic officials to pick "the most appropriate city" for a bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics after Boston dropped out of the running.
On Monday, Boston and the U.S. Olympic Committee announced the end of the citys campaign to host the games after months of local opposition and concern about how it would be funded.
"For the IOC this was always about an American bid put forward by the United States Olympic Committee,'" Bach said in a statement. "This invitation phase is also an opportunity to determine which city will eventually be chosen by an NOC. We are confident that USOC will choose the most appropriate city for a strong U.S. bid."
IOC vice president Craig Reedie said it was a shame that a city like Boston was selected for a potential bid and then is incapable of completing the process.
"Personally, I hope the United States do find another candidate and produce another applicant city for 2024," Reedie said.
Other cities that want to join the bidding process must submit applications to the IOC by Sept. 15. Baku (Azerbaijan), Istanbul (Turkey) and Doha (Qatar) have previously expressed interest in hosting the games, while Budapest, Hamburg, Germany, Paris, Toronto, and Rome have already announced their intentions to bid on the Games.

Ferguson
This is where a Trump-like character would be convenient. He could tell the IOC that the fraud has come to an end.
For a buck ninty five I will allow them to hold the Olympics in my front yard. I have five acres of gently sloping hill that would be perfect for summer games. For the winter, not so much, would need to take a road trip to Tahoe. But, I will let it go cheap!
I wonder if IOC is next on FBI’s hit list?
Gweece is a close-enough approximation to Detroit! Scenery's much better, however. So, yeah, make it Greece.
Baltimore ...
Screw you, Reedie! Screw the Olympics!
A Boston Olympics would have simply been a vehicle to transfer wealth from the taxpayers to the local crony capitalists. They have bad breath.
all they want is the opportunity for bribes.
Why not Detroit? It’s broke already.
kill the movement as in bowel
Translation: We already bribed the IOC for the win, but we need a city.
Have the skiing in Aspen the bob sled in Northern Scotland the ice skating in Central Park the ski jump in Switzerland and the other sports where ever facilities are already in place
The TV coverage won’t really suffer and it would provide more opportunities for fans to see at some of the events
If only one US city is in the running, the bribes will be much smaller.
You betcha they want another city to apply.
Or should I have said “gratuities?”
I LMAO when Chicago was eliminated in the first round. I was so sick of the “we support the bid and you can too” signs which were posted by many office buildings. Businesses were terrified by King Richard the Second.
Look for L.A. to jump right in.
My wife and I were relieved at the failure...last thing we needed was a Boston Olympics...
This is the smartest idea out there. The weather is nearly ideal.
The Olympics is a huge money making scam for those who “organize” it and then they leave the bill to the tax payers to pick up for all the “infrastructure improvements” that seem to cost 10 times the original estimates.
Boston is lucky there are still a few (and i mean a few) people who can see through the IOC BS.
Here is an idea, hold the Summer Olympics every 4 years where it all started ... in Greece. That way the infrastructure will always be in place and the rest of the countries just have to put up “upkeep” money to refurbish the place 4 years later.
Hold the Winter Olympics in Kitzbuhel Austria, home of the best Downhill run, every 4 years.
But that would make too much sense now wouldn’t it.
