I would argue that Cruz has HAD the "limelight" and hasn't been successful. It's not all his fault, but if there are five conservatives in the Senate, then it's not a good idea to try to shut down the government (and BTW, I liked the shutdown).

Smallball ends up in the minds of the general population as what is WRONG with Washington. A Planned Parenthood rider to a Highway bill? Why? It only makes sense if you understand the rules of the Senate, so it's a loser in the minds of the public.

Trump has advanced the illegal alien issue faster, and with more success, than all the bills ever introduced. I hope it doesn't stop there. We'll see. But I don't think Cruz's (or Rand Paul's) actions are going to amount to much at all.

Again, Cruz was praised for his stance in the Senate...now, because of it, the House won’t fun the EX-IM bank. The people who care know what Cruz is trying to do...

Let me ask you...I hear all of this bluster about Trump advancing illegal alien stuff faster...LIKE WHAT? WHAT have been the results of his rhetoric?

Did the Senate move to ban sanctuary cities? No. Did they pledge to build the wall faster? No. Are we going to ramp up deportations? No.

Great, he attacked McCain. Wow, that really affected what happened, didn’t it?

Well....I agree about the trust issue. But trust in politics is something a young, dumb skull of mush would do.

Not me.

Having said that, at this stage of the game, I view Trumps campaign as a typical Populist run engineered by a Populist guy.

In other words, it could be said that he knows how to get ratings!

As did Huey P Long, or even Bill O'reilly at FOX.

Not that it's a bad thing.

Very good point.

And I have a strong feeling you’re right on.

They look almost equal up to 2012, and from 2012 Trump began donating to Republicans more:

1989-2011
$497,690 (Republicans)
$581,350 (Democrats)

2012-present
$463,450 (Republicans)
$3,500 (Democrats)

Don’t see a problem here

Only a few weeks ago, the snarling mob was telling us what a scumbag Cruz is, and how we couldn’t trust him.

The only one you can really trust is Jesus, and He ain’t running.

My point. All this Trump “concern” now is only because of concern of some candidate’s diminishing position.

Seriously?

>>But if he happens to be the last man standing and running against Hillary...who would you vote for...or would you not vote at all.<<

Hillary said it best: “What difference at this point does it make?”

For that matter, with his past donations to Dems including Hillary, and his penchant for gambling, Trump would probably flip a coin to see who gets to be Prez, and who settles for VP.

Both are, on their obvious records, crony capitalists of the highest order. Virtually everything would go to the highest bidder regardless which one is in power.

I’ll vote for Trump over Hillary. I will NOT vote for Jeb over Hillary, because there really is no difference between them....They are the Bush/Clinton Political Cartel.

The Senate and house, for the first time EVER, are actually debating the defunding of these cities. Other candidates are finally talking about it.

But you're set. I keep trying to explain to you why Cruz's senate actions, laudable though they may be, do not come off to the average person as anything but more "what's wrong with Washington." Again, all the 12 o'clock news can get in is that he's attaching amendments to. . . a highway bill. Huh? That's how it comes off.

So, we'll see. I think Trump is in this for a long time, and perhaps longer than Cruz.

“We hear all the time that NOBODY we know supports Jeb. Well, if that is the case, then he wouldn’t run away with the nomination anyway.”

That’s because most people you hang out with think like you and wouldn’t vote for Jeb, but the reality there are a lot of 2008 McCain voters out there who would. How many people you know voted for McCain? How did he run away with it.

“We also hear from Trump people that polls count and Trump is winning and Cruz is only at 4%...so, is that viable?”

It’s viable as long as nobody else wins. The longer Trump keeps Jeb from winning the longer Cruz stays in the campaign and has a chance to make his case to the voters. If ultimately Cruz can’t draw people to him, then that’s on him and it’s not Trump’s fault.

Bottom line is Trump is not keeping Cruz down, he’s keeping Cruz alive (and also Walker), by denying Jeb the quick victory. If you’re Cruz supporter (and I am), you cheer Trump on.

What are you planning to do to get Ted Cruz’s polling numbers up to a point he can win? I can’t figure out how to do that.

I want to win. Trump can win.

>>>Trump WAS performing a valuable service at the start...now, not so much. His finking out of a debate, his attacks on Walker, remaining silent on Planned Parenthood and Cruz’s attack on McConnell, his flipping on Amnesty<<<

How about you fill in the blanks of your accusations, and I am saying this as a Cruz Supporter.

1. Finking out of a Debate? Why would he do that, because the People organizing the so called Debate went after him with a vengeance? I don’t think Cruz is participating in that so called Debate either.

2. His attacks on Walker? Who started that? Walker has a snowballs chance in Hell of getting the Nomination and everyone knows it. He has a personality of a bowl of warm Custard and he is going nowhere. As a caveat, I would Vote for him if he was the Nominee, but I will never get that opportunity.

3. Remaining Silent on Planned Parenthood? He just said he agrees they should be defunded and he also agrees with the 20 Week Restriction on Abortion Bill, just like Cruz.

4. McConnell? Trump thinks McConnell is the problem just as he thinks all other D.C. Politicians are the problem, being the Incompetent Morons that they are. Is Trump in the Senate? Shouldn’t you be concerned that Cruz isn’t being supported by his fellow Republican Senators against the RINO Leadership? What exactly is Trump supposed to do, rescue poor helpless Senator Cruz from that mean Turtle necked McConnell? Spare me.

5. Amnesty? Trump aligns himself with Senator Cruz’s position on Illegal Invaders and that’s called Amnesty now? Are you one of those Dreamers here who think the 30 Million Illegal Invaders will be rounded up, loaded into Cattle Cars and sent to the Southern Border, never to be heard from again? Surely you jest.

Look, you don’t like Trump, that is your prerogative. But of you think throwing out vague Talking Points will get others to agree with your position on Trump, you are mistaken. I can’t recall, are you one of those FReepers that jumped on the Trump is a Rapist Bandwagon yesterday?

Full disclosure, I would Vote a Cruz / Trump Ticket today. I would also consider Voting a Trump / Cruz Ticket, something I would have never considered less than a Month ago.

Sixteen Months is a long, long time to get to the Election and anything can happen. My fear is that Senator Cruz will not gain any Traction, which is a sad state of affairs.

As Dinah Shore sang, Que Sara, Sara, whatever will be will be.

I love it when people are so sanctimonious that they can claim to "see the truth", as if they know what it is and the rest of us don't. No different than the climate change nuts purporting the "debate is over" and the science is "settled". Hogwash.

Excuse me, but no one knows or "can see the truth" anymore than anybody else can. What you see is what you believe the truth to be. Someone else may have a different opinion of what the truth is. That's why in a court of law they deal in facts, not the "truth".

Just strikes me as odd that when he starting toying with running for Prez, he started donating Republican.

Trump might be in for a long time...but remember, none of these bills would have been brought up if not for Cruz...

Trump didn’t do anything about sanctuary cities except seize on the anger of the death of the woman by an illegal. He is good at talking, but Cruz is doing the hard work.

Trump might be in it longer than cruz...but time will tell.
