Fox lowers threshold for early debate (so loser Lindsey, etc. can participate)

Fox News is opening its 5 p.m. debate to all the announced Republican candidates who fail to make the cut for the Aug. 6 prime-time event, removing a requirement that participants reach at least 1 percent in polling.

The change amounts to an insurance policy for candidates who were in danger of being disqualified from the vital first debate based on low polls – Carly Fiorina, former New York Gov. George Pataki and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).

The announcement by Michael Clemente, Fox News Executive Vice President, News, means that all 16 announced candidates will qualify for Cleveland — either the 5 p.m. undercard, or the 9 p.m. main event.

The 9 p.m. debate will include the 10 candidates with the highest average in national polls, as determined by Fox News. The 5 p.m. forum will now include all the rest.

There has to be some way to limit the field, this is as good as any. Otherwise we would never get past the introductions, as it is with 10 each will get what, 2 or 3 questons at most?

Still being ‘murica and all, I guess some one could host another debate and make any rules they prefer.......

To cover all participants,

“raise your hand if ...”

“yes or no? ...”

==

Each one will be lucky to get a total of 3 minutes response time.

Barring an ‘I forgot the 3rd department I would eliminate’ moment, this debate will not result in much information for the viewers.

you overlook the fact that Graham’s video had twice as many views as Trump’s video.

Indeed this is a more fair way to determine who is the best candidate to get our votes. Although, there won’t be a lot of time for each candidate to define his/her positions.

I see this becoming more of a circus in the first round but somehow, may limit those who will be going at it in the subsequent rounds.

I wonder how Fox will be fair (yeah...stupid question given the hosts). Will they give all candidates for both sessions the questions ahead of time? Or will they use the same questions to both sessions?

If they use different questions, they will be accused of being unfair. If they use the same questions they will be accused of being unfair, because the second session will have time to refine their answers.

It would be nice to see Fiorina edge up a bit.

I agree. She's not my pick but she is saying all the right things about the Cankle Beast.

I nearly always hitch my wagon to your more relaxed horse that manages to fold way early. My personal favorite is still Cruz. He doesn't seem to be getting traction, even among genuine conservatives, while he puts his neck on the block on their behalf, in real life, on nearly every issue.

Fiorina has less chance than Cruz. Yet she has said the things necessary to get crucified by the mob if she were to get some traction of her own.

I won't watch the FOX Republican,,,sort of ...infomercial. That many people on a stage for an hour or two create little but cacophony.
