I just don’t get how people experience joy from killing a noble beast.
I understand killing for food... it’s the right thing. But killing for sport I just don’t understand. :-/
Maybe that makes me some sort of a wimp? If so, I’m a proud wimp!
The picture makes me sick to my stomach.
So, this dentist has hired a PR firm. Loser. I hope he gets exactly what he deserves in life and loses everything he has.
Tragic...
... thousands more die at the hands of abortionists and Islam without notice.
Who will be punished first, this guy or PP???
As you might expect the animal rights idiots have harassed this guy, threatened his life, and have posted his business address in Minnesota causing him to close his dental practice temporarily from the harassment he has gotten. I don’t condone this guy for killing a lion, but the worldwide reaction to this is beyond ridiculous and it’s only because he’s an AMERICAN!!!! The world press relishes the chance to bash one of us on a worldwide scale.
Lions will play with their food but not for two days.
Okay, these hunters were unethical for sure in their methods
I think anyone convicted of poaching should have all there hunting rights taken away...I am all for responsible hunting....I believe that hunting deer and other food animals is responsible and right....there is nothing right about the type of hunting this dentist does.

Cecil, at 13 y/o, may have been nearing the term of his longevity.
**Cecil had been a major tourist draw at Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park. The lion, who was reportedly fond of humans, was also part of an ongoing research project with Oxford University. Cecil had worn a GPS collar that allowed researchers to track his movements.**
Is it possible that people associated with the preserve, fed Cecil and *tamed* him to gain a rep for sighting him to raise popularity with tourists?
JOINT PRESS STATEMENT BY ZIMBABWE PARKS AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY AND SAFARI OPERATORS ASSOCIATION OF ZIMBABWE ON THE ILLEGAL HUNT OF A COLLARED LION AT ANTOINETTE FARM, HWANGE DISTRICT ON 1 JULY 2015 IN GWAYI CONSERVANCY BY BUSHMAN SAFARIS PROFESSIONAL HUNTER, THEO BRONKHORST.Theo Bronchorst, a professional hunter with Bushman Safaris is facing criminal charges (VIC FALLS Police CR 27/07/2015) for allegedly killing a collared lion on Antoinette farm in Gwayi Conservancy, Hwange district on 1 July 2015. The lion named Cecil was well known and regularly sighted by tourists in the Main camp area of Hwange National Park. It is alleged that the hunter connived with the Antoinette land owner, Mr. Honest Trymore Ndlovu to kill the lion. Ongoing investigations to date, suggest that the killing of the lion was illegal since the land owner was not allocated a lion on his hunting quota for 2015. Therefore, all persons implicated in this case are due to appear in court facing poaching charges.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management as the Regulatory Authority and custodian of all wild animals in Zimbabwe issues hunting permits and hunting quota for all hunting areas in Zimbabwe so that only animals on quota are to be hunted. In this case, both the professional hunter and land owner had no permit or quota to justify the offtake of the lion and therefore are liable for the illegal hunt.
Both professional hunter Theo Bronkhorsts licence number 553 who was involved in the hunt and the owner of Antoinette farm, Mr. Honest Trymore Ndlovu are being jointly charged for illegally hunting the lion. The two are due to appear in court on Wednesday, 29 July 2015. Efforts are being made to interview the other professional hunter, Zane Bronkhorst, licence number 558, who was also involved in the illegal hunt.
The Professional Hunter Theo Bronkhosrts Licence has been suspended with immediate effect. The lion trophy has also been confiscated. The relevant stakeholders have been informed and are being updated about this matter.
I’ve mentioned this in other discussions about this sad incident, but I am looking forward to how the corrupt element in the local authority involved with the nature parks there is undoubtedly connected with the hunting permits being issued and how the animals are lured and how all of this is ultimately tied with the poaching and illegal skin and ivory trade. Exposing and suffocating this sort of thing can be the good that comes out of this sad episode.
Not a hunter, just a killer.
Sounds to me that that the P.H. was a jacka$$.
Well I’m not anti-hunter but to intentionally lure a protected beast off a reserve seems very cruel and unsportsmanlike.
I always told my boys when we would go hunting, “eat it or
wear it”.
I see the New York Times couldn’t resist tossing the word ‘American’ into the headline.
At any rate, what he did is hardly new...
