I’m female, and took the job as C.O. when I was 33. Moseley used to have to pass through the “wire gate” post once or twice a day to get to his job. I was assigned to work that job fairly regularly. Because he thought he was a ladies’ man, Moseley would try to converse with me on his way through the gate. I knew what a scum bag he was and made it perfectly clear that he was to move along. Offers were required to wear name tags with our first initial and last name. One day as he was passing through the gate, Moseley asked me what the K. stood for on my name tag. I told him it was none of his business and he went on his way. After he’d gone, I realized I should have said “Kitty” just to get a reaction from him. That’s not my first name, but I would loved to have seen his face. All these years later I’m still sorry I never thought of it at the time.

The problem in New York City in 1964 and to a great extent today is that the NYPD has effectively criminalized the notion of coming to someone else’s aid.

Yes, and that’s sad, but it’s the folks in state capitols who write the laws, not police departments.

Uunngh. You were better off not saying “Kitty”.

Just imagine what sick perverted wet-dreams that POS would have had about you.

Yep, helping someone is a great way to drop $100,000 on a defense attorney.

As New York Mayor De Blasio has discovered the fact of life is that he answers to the NYPD. They do not answer to him.

The NYPD and too many police departments these days more closely resemble the paramilitary police gangs of Latin America than they do anything of the USA. They're not accountable to anyone else.

The Pink Floyd song, "Dogs of War", comes to mind with the part about how their masters don't control what they do.

Excellent point. I stand in awe of that argument.

Can’t believe that POS is still alive. Too bad Kitty didn’t carry a gun or knife with her.

It’s interesting, I was just talking about this YESTERDAY with my 2^ boss. He was saying that today, people are even LESS inclined to get involved, and instead whip out their cell phones to record the action for YouTube/Internet fame.

Either way, horrible horrible little people.

Should make one about the recent killing where a group of people just watched a man get stabbed to death on the DC Metro.

Thanks for posting that.

The public was whipped up into a frenzy because of our “delightful” media.

Wow.

All I had to see was “Haunted New Yorkers since 64...” and I knew it was the Kitty Genovese story.

Guess I’m old... and a New Yorker at heart...

Sad.
