In the last few weeks, Americans (and the media) have watched in awe as a New York real estate magnate prone to bellicose behavior and hyperbole has become the GOP's leading candidate for the White House.
But how did this come to be? A lot of it has to do with education.
Trump's support is strongest with Republicans in the Midwest, conservatives across the country who do not have a college degree and (perhaps not surprisingly) those who report the most negative views of immigration and Mexican immigrants in particular, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released last week.
To be clear, the poll found that 60 percent of all Americans support the idea of offering undocumented immigrants currently in the United States some form of legal status, and 57 percent told pollsters they believe that immigrants strengthen the country. But there are plenty of people who see things differently. And those people appear to be concentrated among whites, Republicans and those with lower levels of education.

I’ve never associated malice with dumbness myself.
Especially them there union types.
Well, it’s true that Trump reaches the low info voters better than any democrat. I smile at that.
But Janell, so you really believe these asinine polls that 60% believe immigrants should be legalized and 57% believe they strengthen America? Because if you believe such nonsense, the low information voter is a step above your ilk which is the hallucinating class.
“now tell me about that 99% group that voted for Obama....all college educated??”
Right!
Case in point - remember that 0bamaphone girl from way back when?
Well looky here... gaaaawleee... weez just a bunch a big ole unjucated rednecks with no learnin.
Ataway to paint an entire region of people with a broad brush... from the Tolerant Left. I just wish all us dumb ignernt rednecks had the learns and the thinking powr of the superior left.
......conservatives across the country who do not have a college degree and (perhaps not surprisingly) those who report the most negative views of immigration......
It should have said "do not have or need a college degree". The truth be known a person can do quite well without college and I speak from experience.
To set the record straight, I have a college degree AND I have made a lot of money too.
My college did not play a significant role in my acquisition of wealth.
I made all my real money in the stock market and believe me you don't need college to do that!
From what I've seen in recent years, colleges are turning out "educated idiots".
Yeah, sitting in the basement smoking weed planning the next Occupy camping trip takes superior intellect.
I believe the correct term is “ignert.”
Isn't Obama's strongest support with black urban Democrat HS dropouts? Any surprise they don't mention that?
Trump should win 100% of the Mexican vote. They are truly the non-educated voter. More good news for Trump.
Ha! Ha! Ha! If that comforts you Janell go for it!
As for the rest of the country it’s not even on the radar.
Let’s see, I graduated from a top college and a well-regarded law school and received a Master in Laws degree from the school having the top program in the country. Yes, I guess I am one of those ignernt ones the author is describing.
How rude. I demand an apology on behalf of the laundry list of Americans they just sweepingly smeared.
Oh look, a democrat.
“all about less-educated Americans”
His surge is all about a lot of things.
Damn for someone who is supposed to be from the oppressed class she sure seems to have one hell of an uppity attitude!
I wish I still had the link, but I recall reading an article where the author showed that by actual measurement IQs go down on average when people go to college. In other words most people get dumber in college, not smarter. This appears to be true to me by personal observation. My friend’s kids coming out of college believe the stupidest shyt imaginable and have little capacity for critical thinking.
What education do you need to do that? That's something I wanted to get into, but I don't even know where to start.
