Donald Trump is still rocketing up polls in dominating fashion

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at the Family Leadership Summit.

Donald Trump is still the clear front-runner of the 2016 GOP presidential field.

A new Economist/YouGov poll released on Friday actually showed Trump gaining support in the last week, despite a controversy over his comments questioning Sen. John McCain's (R-Arizona) status as a "war hero."

According to the poll, the number of registered Republican primary voters who responded that Trump is their first choice jumped from 15% at the beginning of July to 28% last week. Another 10% of voters pick him as their second choice.

That puts the real-estate magnate far ahead of the next Republican candidate, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), as well as Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), who saw his numbers jump following his campaign announcement earlier this month.

The poll comes only a week after many analysts declared that Trump's comments about McCain would mark a turning point in his campaign.

Trump was one of the first 2016 candidates to call attention to the death of Kathryn Steinle, a 32-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by an immigrant living in the US without permission.

Trump got a shout-out during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing this week from one of the witnesses, who thanked him for bringing attention to the issue of violent crime committed by immigrants living in the US illegally.

And earlier this week, House Republicans passed an immigration bill that Democrats dubbed "The Donald Trump Act."

What Trump said was quite directed and wonderful. He described how Petreaus, with much less information being given to his biographer, is a ruined man. Meanwhile, hillary gets protection for her continual and much more criminal behavior in her treatment of sensitive email.

I’m concerned that Trump will cause the worst possible candidate to win.

I’m pulling for Cruz, even Walker.

He called her a criminal when he first announced too, but the media was too busy being outraged on behalf of illegal aliens to notice.

Trump was speaking to the low info voter. Most of us here on FR are already aware of The Beast’s shortcomings...

Trump represents a far greater threat, an existential threat, to the GOPe than Zero or Hitlery or any other Dimocrap.

I’d feel more at ease with him if he was running against the Democrats as hard as he’s running against Republicans

He is. What difference is there between the two these days? He's showing that it's really possible to kill two birds with one stone. I bet by this time next year the Hillary campaign will be a memory. Obama/Jarret will see to that. And the rest of the GOPe candidates will be forced to take a stand on the issues which is something they are desperately trying to avoid doing. You go, Donald!

These days, is there really any difference?
