President Bashar al-Assad acknowledged in an unusually frank public admission on Sunday that the Syrian military is unable to hold on to some parts of the country because his forces have been depleted by desertions and defections.
Mr. Assad attributed the regimes recent battlefield setbacks to this shortage of manpower and the need to defend areas deemed more strategic and vital than others.
The idea that we were going to win all battles everywhere at the same time is unrealistic, impossible and not doable, said Mr. Assad in a televised speech delivered at the presidential palace in Damascus to members of trade and professional unions.

Maybe Putin can send troops in for him.
I’m sorry, that Assad’s side has gotten whipped at times and a lot of surely, young men fought for his forces who didn’t deserve to die at the hands of ISIS.
How can you tell a deserter from a defector?
The latter probably has a lawyer.
Assad is a lot better than the radicals who will replace him.
He’d better watch his cornhole because he’s about to get the same treatment Kadaffy got.
Ouchie! If I were him, I would be looking for the exits.
Assad is a murdering scumbag who started this whole thing. Yeah, he’s better than ISIS.
Assad supported the same elements trying to kill him when they were killing Americans in Iraq, so I wouldn’t get too fond of him.
So easy to condemn the guy, but look at the forces he was arrayed against.
Do you wish to grant free political expression to people who want to kill you?
“Assad is a murdering scumbag who started this whole thing. Yeah, hes better than ISIS.”
Actually Hillary started it, as in the Arab Spring. If you look at the condition of Syria and Libya before Hillary decided to light up the Middle East, you’d see two stable and fairly prosperous countries run by dictators who generally left you alone, as long as you did act like the New York Times treats Republicans.
Libya didn’t put up much of a fight, and the place now is a TOTAL HELLHOLE. Assad didn’t want to see Syria end up like Libya, as would have happened if he quietly stepped down, nor was he too hot on following the fate of Libya’s leader. So he resisted the terrorists.
Easy to blame him for not being a Thomas Jefferson, but other than Israel, how many countries in the Middle East are run by Thomas Jeffersons?
We do it today here in the U.S.
Assad initially supported ISIS in order to deligitimize the peaceful protests. Lately ISIS hackers have been found to be located in Russia...
Hillary and Obama wanted to create an immigration crisis that would flood Europe and the US. Irony that now Russia is milking and encouraging this mess to continue for this very reason.
I’m not fond of any of them. There are no good Muslims as far as I’m concerned. Whoever takes over once Assad is gone, will be just as bad or worse.
