Ode to the faithful: Andy Grammer’s new anti-cheating anthem

Sex might very well sell, but so does separation. America has long had a love affair with stories of divorce, breakups and infidelity. We eat it up like chocolate cake, feasting on the drama of others’ heartbreak. Nothing whets the public’s appetite like a scandalous affair, and judging by the most common tabloid headlines, you’d think that all we want is to see a couple falter and fail. We care more about cheating than loyalty — anniversaries may be sweet, but they sure don’t sell. Couples who make it are just so . . . boring. But Andy Grammer wants none of this. The singer recently released “Honey, I’m Good,” a feel-good, do-good hit that’s inching toward the top 10. It’s a happy, catchy tune, but more than anything else, it’s an anti-cheating anthem. The “honey” in the title, the “honey” Grammer sings to, is not his wife, but rather an alluring woman he just met at a bar who wants to take him home. The desire is there, and Grammer acknowledges it: “You look good, I will not lie . . . ” We’ve heard plenty of songs like this before — songs about this woman, this scenario, this type of temptation. But we rarely hear the man who, in response, ends up saying, “Nah, nah, honey, I’m good . . . I’ve got somebody at home . . . to another I will stay true.” It’s a refreshing message, sure, but what makes this song work so well is that it’s neither saccharine nor snobby. It’s got that down-to-earth realism, and he’s not boasting or taking some holier-than-thou stance. In fact, he sings that “better men than me have failed, drinking from that unholy grail.”

I just saw this dude on the Summer Concert Tour.....Can you believe that we actually have a famous double platnum album seller who talks about morals and other conservative traits. Most times I think we are in trouble in society but then something happens to give me hope like this guy and the 3 companies that just dumped Planned Parenthood. Sometimes I think maybe we will survive after all.

It’s a great song, and the video is great too.

I tell you I hate that Ed Shearen (sp?) song. “When your legs don’t work like they used to....” That’s an opening line of a song?

I’ve actually never heard it, that first line is such a turn off.

Cool. Nice to have conservatives writing about other conservatives.

Randy Travis’ “On the other hand” did much the same thing.
