Seattles $15 minimum wage law is supposed to lift workers out of poverty and move them off public assistance. But there may be a hitch in the plan.
Evidence is surfacing that some workers are asking their bosses for fewer hours as their wages rise in a bid to keep overall income down so they dont lose public subsidies for things like food, child care and rent.

In plain words, $15 isn't good for them, either. $15/hour is too much, at 40 hours a week, to continue qualifying for welfare. So when will it be enough? $20/an hour? $40 an hour? What?
Just like 0bamacare moving so many workers to part time status. The government knows what’s best, and then reality sets in.
You mean these people can’t live on $600 a week?
Everyone should get $100,000 each per year. /s
“But there may be a hitch in the plan.”
Yeah, “reality”.
You hater. Make it a million. Or billion.
It’s my understanding that the argument FOR $15/hour was to GET PEOPLE OFF ASSISTANCE?!?!?!?!?!
Fallout?
WHO’DATHUNKIT...
Next, Seattle will pass a law requiring employers to stay in Seattle, paying the higher wages, or be jailed for leaving.
Wouldn’t be the first time someone has tried that, to keep Socialism alive.
What they need is $60 an hour, so they can have a nice upper middle class existence while flipping burgers.
Question is, when will it be enough to not be enough (to eliminate qualifying for the subsidies)?
Sad state of affairs indeed.
Pretty much all liberal cities. Now the liberal underclass can see the consequences of their ignorance and stupidity.
It is amazing, isn’t it. Freedom and socialism hate each other. The only way to make one work is to defeat the other. I fully expect that once economic realities set in the powers to be will get the camps up and operating. I wonder, will they pay minimum wage to the guards?

Echo!!
Deja vu
Sure they can live on 600 a week, they just don’t want to work for what they’re getting for free. They’ve been lured into the freeloader/bum life by the liberals. They’re as addicted to their public assistance as a junkie is to his drug.
have to chuckle a little....governments raising the wages, how much more income tax does this increase provide the tax collectors....
No duh! The effective marginal income tax for these folks is huge, over 100% in many cases.
These people may be poor, but they are not all stupid.
Directive 10-289
Some years ago my youngest boy and his wife were on hard times. They got to know another couple who were in the same boat, but who played the system and acquired the whole menu of public support. Portland, OR is a big city, so they also went around to each church, crying poor mouth and getting their phone or power bill paid.
He about flipped when he saw them eating halibut steak, etc., courtesy of John Q. Public, while they were living on Top Ramen and hot dogs.
To make ends meet. his wife got a temp job waitressing and told the other guy's wife that she could get her a job there as well. The couple blanched, and declined, saying they would lose their benefits if they did so. He's been to the right of Atilla The Hun ever since.
