In the sense that every GOP strategist of which I am aware is a pussyfooting, big-government-lite, RINO loser, I would agree with him in this one instance.
A plain speaking, truth telling Republican candidate like Trump has proven to stride as a giant among the gutless, wishy-washy, Obama and lame stream media fearing Lilliputians.

This coming from the guy that got scared by a girl, and wouldn’t let her go out there and fight. And lost the election that gave us Barry.

That someone - anyone - can refer to Steve Schmidt as a "top strategist" tells you everything you need to know about the scripted, stage managed process that has captured the Republic from its rightful masters.

“calling out the Republican Party for not standing up to Donald Trump”

That’s exactly what Trump is doing, or part of what he’s doing.

The top strategist to Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign...

And the GOP is listening to this proven loser because...??? The GOP refuses to understand why Trump is popular. HEY! STUPID! It's because he's touting things that have a lot of ex-GOP voters pissed off...like illegal immigration. The GOP is never going to win the Hispanic vote...illegals come here to milk the system of its freebies and the Dems just keep promising it to them. Why not try to tell us what you're going to do to staunch the flow of freeloaders into this country?

LOL! So the GOP-e should have defended Obama’s lack of college records, birth certificate forgery and use of multiple SS numbers and that would help?

This is the same guy who undermined Palin during the campaign. Let’s hope the GOP listens to him.

Pray America is waking

This Steve Schmidt clown is a prime example of why the conservative base has nothing but contempt for the GOPe.

Let’s not forget what they said about Reagan...........

• New York Times: Reagan’s candidacy is “patently ridiculous.”.

• New York Times: “The astonishing thing is that this amusing but frivolous Reagan fantasy is taken so seriously by the news media and particularly by the President (Gerald Ford). It makes a lot of news, but it makes no sense.”.

• New Republic: “Ronald Reagan to me is still the posturing, essentially mindless and totally unconvincing candy man that he’s been in my opinion ever since I watched his first try for the Republican nomination evaporate in Miami in 1968.”.

• New Republic: “Reagan is Goldwater revisited…He is a divisive factor in the party.”.

• Harper’s magazine: “That he should be regarded as a serious candidate for President is a shame and an embarrassment for the country at large to swallow.”.

Schmidt is not too sharp. He’s seen the kind of payback Trump dishes out to his detractors, but he failed to take the hint. Now Trump’s going to thump Steve good and hard, and he’ll have no one to blame but himself.

Oh the irony. The GOP is reaping what they sowed with Trump expressly because of backstabbing RINOs like Steve Schmidt.

Steve Schmidt, who ran the day to day operations on McCain’s losing bid to Barack Obama, told “Hardball’s” Chris Matthews that Trump was given a free pass in his consistent questioning of President Obama’s birthplace.

If that doesn't prove that the fix on Obama was in from day one then nothing does. The Uni-Party and Agenda 21 in full force. Go Sheriff Joe!

Actually, candidates like Trump are what the GOP gets for ignoring its base for a quarter-century.

Schmidt and his ilk in the GOPe consultant class are why the GOP finds itself like a mastodon in a tarpit, wallowing ineffectually, awaiting its demise. The only thing they’re good at is syphoning donation money, vampire like, from stupid GOP candidates. Delivering voters? eh, not so much.

Schmidt has it backward. The Republican party should have stood up to McCain and Schmidt.

You know you are trouble when:

The “top GOP strategist” is a guy who managed a failed campaign against someone like Barack Obama who has more baggage than samsonite

“How does running McCain’s appallingly terrible and inept 2008 campaign qualify anyone to be called a “top strategist”?”

Calling Schmidt a top strategist is like calling Beckel a top strategist.
