Ever since Donald Trump claimed Saturday that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) isn’t a war hero -- or, maybe, is one only because he was captured in Vietnam -- cable networks have covered those remarks without pause.
The national media are obsessed with Trump, who has ridden the feedback loop of press attention to the top of the Republican presidential primary polls. Trump’s comments last month about Mexican immigrants being “rapists” drew extensive coverage as well. But the McCain swipe seemed to send TV bookers into a unique frenzy.
Over four days, The Huffington Post found 162 people -- rival presidential candidates, other politicians, strategists, analysts, journalists and former prisoners of war -- have been asked to offer their take on Trump’s comment and/or how it will affect the 2016 primary.
Not included in the list is White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, whose take on the fracas was broadcast when he delivered it during his daily briefing. Nor are MSNBC viewers, who were polled on Monday as to whether the McCain comments made Trump unpresidential.
All told, 20 current and former lawmakers were asked to address L'Affaire Trump. Trump himself called in to ABC’s “This Week” and “Fox & Friends” to respond, as well as commenting on camera on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor.” McCain went on air too, as did two of his children.

Well I enjoy the fact Trump seems to be annoying the media and the fact that his message resonates with many no doubt ticks them off which is another bonus. But sorry I just can’t support that guy for prez, and I hope he doesn’t pull some third party thing either. But at least he should make the debates much more entertaining. And no doubt he’s made Scott Walker (whom I support) veer to the right on this issue, so for that I thank him.
How many of this 162 has actually listened to what Trump really said?
They are trying to Palinize Trump, and it isn’t working. They never let up on her and it sank her. For some reason, it isn’t working with Trump.
Right now it should be Trump vs. Obama and we should not settle for anything less. McCain is a has been. Obama is the traitor who is systematically trying to ruin this great Nation at an extremely dangerous and fast rate. Trump needs to eviscerate him if he is to do anything that matters at all. Go to it Trump or you are a part of the problem and not the solution.
Even Hispanic illegal immigration doesn’t “trump” what Obama is doing with Iran and the whole fanatical Muslim our sworn enemy problem. He is totally enabling our enemy in ways that are unbelievably effective and hardly anyone is even talking about it.
At the bottom of everything, though, is the fact that this Country is falling apart morally and we are being judged. Moral issues at the heart of our problem. This also needs to be addressed in a huge way.

I finally figured out what Trump was trying to say when he made the comment, “ I like those who haven’t been captured.” He wasn’t putting down those who have been captured, or were POWs. He was saying he liked the vets. It didn’t come out right, and I think that’s why he doesn’t think he said anything wrong. I could be wrong, but, I don’t think so, because he kept saying McCain is a war hero. Those two statements only make sense in my opinion, and the only way they can be reconciled.
Me too! I just wish that US Senate traitor (not military traitor) McCain and his sympathizers and news media hounds (Lindsey Graham) are along for the ride! Yes, I can say that really creepy fellow that hangs onto his coattails with long claws along with the also creepy new media hound McCain!
Both are probably getting rich for their efforts and pushing those unfortunate folks off to the side. McCain has been knwon to be in the banking business before...
