Donald Trump Heaps Insults on Lindsey Graham, Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, Other Foes
Time ^ | 7/21/15 | Michael Scherer

A triumphant and unrepentant Donald Trump launched a barrage of personal attacks and name-calling on his campaign rivals Tuesday, most notably calling South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham an “idiot” handing out Graham’s cell phone number to the whole world

He dismissed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush as “weak on immigration,” and mocked Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s glasses and Hillary Clinton’s hand wave.

“What a stiff, what a stiff, Lindsey Graham. By the way he has registered zero in the polls,” Trump said, at an appearance in Bluffton, S.C. “A total lightweight. In the private sector, he couldn’t get a job.”

Earlier in the day, Graham called Trump a “jackass.” In response, Trump called Graham an “idiot” and held up a card that included Graham’s personal phone number, then asked his supporters to call Graham. “I don’t know, give it a shot,” he said.

“I’m not a fan of Jeb Bush,” he went on. “Jeb bush is in favor of Common Core and he is weak on immigration. .. Who would you rather have negotiating with China. Trump or Jeb? Or Trump or Hillary?” When he mentioned former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he waved his hand to pantomime her approach to diplomacy.

-snip-

“I think Rick Perry is probably smarter than Lindsey Graham. But what do I know?” he said, after mocking Perry’s new glasses—”He’s got the glasses, oh oh oh.” Trump previously tweeted that Rick Perry should have an IQ test before getting on the debate stage, a comment he repeated in South Carolina. “I think Rick Perry is probably smarter than Lindsey Graham. But what do I know?” he said.

Trump said “The reason they are hitting me in all fairness,” Trump continued. “When you are registering zero in the polls, you’ve got nothing to lose.”

At some point the GOPe will figure out the best way to shut Trump up is to ignore him...

Then he will have to present actual political positions and defend them...

Hyperbolic rants will only get you so far...

Why will he need to turn on Cruz? What would be the benefit?

Well he’s running against him for the Reoublican nomination isn’t he? At some point every person in the process has to look out for #1 if they are serious about winning. Cruz is rock solid on conservative positions. Trump has a lifetime of liberalism. He cannot go after Cruz on facts. So how can he clear the deck?.

Two of the speakers at the hearings about illegal criminals and sanctuary cities on the hill today mentioned. “They had tried for years to get attention. Trump did it in 2 minutes. “

These families certainly don’t think Trump is of no substance. YOu might also research what he has in mind for the veterans. Trump is giving the silent “crazies” a voice

If it came down to Cruz vs Trump you would have a point but I am trying to scratch my head at how that scenario would come about.

Jeb drops out to be Clinton’s running mate? Other than that, I got nothin.

See, I disagree. That personalization is what was missing from the last two presidential campaigns. Moreover, we are in a different era of celebrity. Trump absolutely gets it.

Graham calls Trump an idiot. Trump gives out Graham’s phone number. Trump has Graham’s phone number? Who’s the idiot?

I hope people start calling him and telling him to drop out.

All that is true, but more important, he is really the first one on our side (Obama did this) to figure out "celebrity." Yeah, Zero had other things going for him, but he also mastered Twitter, FB, and all the other social media. The rest of these guys are playing catch up. Cruz is better than most, but he doesn't yet have the celebrity status. No one on either side can trump Trump in this category.

If he can roll out just one issue a month over the next 12 months and not give the other side time to recover---as he's been doing---he has a real shot.

I would say you have three basic camps here. Cruizers that are conservative/wanting conservatism. Trumpeters, who want conservative things but are just pissed and don’t really care as long as someone says happy sounding words and GOP/Liberals that will elect a liberal no matter what.

2/3 of right wing voters, at minimum are not in the GOP camp. So Ted vs. Don is actually a likely scenario. Jeb is going further left by the day and the rest are filler.

Walker isn’t much of a threat as he gets more Mitt’like by the day waffling on positions.

Funny, some Trump supporters and other Freepers get all offended when people are “obnoxious” or “hurl insults” and yet, that is all Trump can seem to do.

Is he not a better man that he can’t do anything else of substance other than make fun of other Republicans? I mean, I get bashing McCain and Graham, but to make fun of Perry’s glasses....really?

Yes really. It's funny, pathetic actually, that you can't see through your hatred for Trump that Trump is responding to THEIR insults...not the other way around Johnny one note.

What if Trump is a “setup” to make such a thing happen.... Weirder things have occurred in the past...

I support Cruz, but I have no problem with Trump’s comments. After years of PC Nazis being in control, including in the RNC, I love it.
